Weekend tip: at Bricks & Robots, kids aged 6 and up learn to program with LEGO

Looking for a fun and educational programming workshop for children? At Bricks & Robots, kids aged six and up can learn programming through play with LEGO and robots, at locations in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Eindhoven, and Rotterdam.

For kids who love LEGO and like to invent things themselves

For children who love building, combining, trying things out, and understanding how things work, Bricks & Robots is the place where it all comes together. It's all about creating, discovering, and learning!

Bricks & Robots organizes robotics and programming courses for children aged 6 to 12, working with LEGO robots. They build their own creations and learn to program them step by step. Playfully, creatively, and precisely tailored to the level of young children.

What kids do at Bricks & Robots

In Bricks & Robots, kids work with LEGO® SPIKE™ Essential. They build various robot projects and discover how they move, stop, and react. Using visual programming blocks, they give their robot commands: forward, faster, wait, and try again.

The great thing is: nothing is set in stone. Children test, adjust, and rebuild. Sometimes something works immediately, sometimes only after three tries—and that's precisely what makes it fun. There are courses for children with no experience and courses for those who have participated before to progress. The groups are divided by age, and what I liked is that both boys and girls participate.

Why this is such a fun after-school activity

It's creative, technical, and challenging. It can take some getting used to the fact that there's "school" on Saturdays, and that it's an activity children are fully engaged in. But the pride at the end of the lesson when they get to show off what they've made... so much fun!

When I look at my own son's experience, I find that Bricks & Robots is perfect for children who:

  • crazy about LEGO
  • like to build and craft
  • want to know how things work
  • having fun learning new things.

Bricks & Robots also organises children's parties

Chances are you're thinking again this year: what's fun to do at a kids' party? We've tried so many things at home, but staying original is sometimes so hard. Bricks & Robots also caters to children's parties. A kids' party where you build and program your own robot? That's so cool, isn't it? There's a good chance this will be the party the kids will be talking about all school year!

Where to find Bricks & Robots in the Netherlands

The complaint is often that these kinds of fun activities are only found in Amsterdam, but I have good news: Bricks & Robots can be followed in several locations in the Netherlands.

Currently there are courses in:

  • Amsterdam (where my son is also)
  • Rotterdam
  • Eindhoven

And later in 2026 also in:

  • Utrecht
  • The Hague

The courses start at several times a year, so kids can often join in or progress to a subsequent course.
