Table d’hôte, jazz and afrobeat at Bird in Rotterdam!
In May I’m going to Rotterdam to create a city guide. It’s gonna be the first time in years that I’m spending a whole weekend in this industrial and rugged town. And I look forward to it sooo much! I used to be a regular there to go clubbing to Now and Wow or Las Palmas but since I live in Amsterdam (for 10 years) I didn’t go back that much. So I look forward to it a lot! I have a long hot list with places to visit and already made some restaurant reservations. The weekend of May 23 – 25 is going to be perfect!
One of the hotspots that’s high on my bucket-list is Bird. A restaurant and jazzclub under one roof at a cool industrial location close to Rotterdam Central Station. This restaurant is located under a former subway rail. One of those great spots you normally only see in Shoreditch in London or Brooklyn in New York. z
I can’t wait to go to Bird for dinner and stay there till the early hours to drink and dance. At Bird you can expect live jazz music but also other sounds like: soul, latin, funk, hiphop and afrobeat. My love and I listen to afrobeat a lot so I hope they play that when we’re there. It reminds me of the many trips to Africa we made!
The restaurant of the Bird is all about pure and artisan food. Rough but with a fine and delicate taste. There’s no set menu but a weekly changing 3-, 4-, or 5- course menu with a Table d’hôte concept. As you all know I LOVE that concept and like to be surprised by the Chef. Look forward to trying and testing the food very much :-).
A while ago I red an interview with Philip Powel who is the creative director of Bird. No stranger in this field since he already worked for Lowlands and North Sea Jazz Festival. For the Palladium Boots Explorer Series he made a very cool movie about HIS Rotterdam. And it’s this movie by Philip that inspired me to go to Rotterdam for a weekend! I really like the raw and edgy side of this city.
Beside Philip, Palladium made more artistic movies with influencers from other cities like LA and Berlin. And if you like the urban lifestyle like I do and want to see a gimps of the unseen sides of towns all over the world I can highly recommend checking out some of the other movies. The coming weeks more and more explorer videos from influencers will be released that you can check on the website of Palladium or via #EXPLOREYOURCITY.
Of course I will give you an update of my dinner at Bird after May 23!
