Come with me to get breakfast in Taipei 🥢
Straight from the airport to this little place to taste soup dumplings and so much more! That's what I call a soft landing 😉 <3
In Taipei, you go to a Soy Milk Shop for breakfast. Warm soy milk to eat in a bowl, and steam baskets with the tastiest dumplings and baozi. You can really wake me up for this kind of breakfast. These local breakfast spots come in all shapes and sizes, from Michelin-recommended spots to hole-in-the-wall stalls.
Most soy milk shops open early (and sometimes even 24 hours a day), and these are the dishes you want to try:
🥄 Warm soy milk
🥢 Soup dumplings (you can often choose between pork and veggies)
🥢 Pork baozi
🥢 Youtiao (油條 - a kind of fried donut stick)
🥢 Youtiao (油條) w/ pork floss & rice
🥢 Turnip cake
🥢 Chives pancake
🥢 Scallion pancake
TIP: Sharing is a good idea to taste as much as possible, because the portions are (often) large.
You'll want to remember these soy milk shops for your future trip to Taipei:
📍Fuhang Soy Milk
📍Soy Milk Shop
📍Yong He Soya Milk King (Da'an)
📍Sihai Soy Milk
I am currently touring Taiwan, and you can also find all the tips in my Stories Highlight.
Have you ever been to Taiwan? I'm curious if you thought it was *that* amazing!

Just back from Catalonia and I thought: I'll share some tips right away.
During our road trip, we stayed two nights in the Ebro Delta. An incredibly fun stop for families and foodies, where there is plenty to do.
• A boat trip to the Musclarium is a must! Here you eat oysters and mussels straight from the farm, in the middle of the sea.
· Admire the flamingos and black ibises that can be found here all year round.
· Rice is grown in the Ebro Delta all year round. For paella, but Kensho also makes sake and miso from it! You can visit them during a tasting.
Cycling along the rice fields, canoeing on the Ebro River, and visiting various beaches. It was still a bit too cold right now, but there is plenty to do.
• The towns are very low-key and not that exciting, but you can find fantastic local food there. From the Michelin-awarded Les Moles* to local eateries like Vermuteria Bonmarisc and Lo Tinglado. We ate a lot of fish, but also anemone fritters (a first!).
Now back to work, and I’m going to create an extensive travel guide of this road trip through Catalonia, but you’ll want to save these tips for a future adventure.

Housed in a genuine chapel, this restaurant exudes a historic atmosphere with an industrial interior. Choose from a variety of menus. Do you enjoy surprises and a menu that changes daily? The market menu is perfect for you. Curious and want to see what's going on in the kitchen? Book the Chef's Table menu, which gives you a behind-the-scenes look. Classic and global flavors merge in Menu Noor, a 6-course dinner. Noor is one of the best restaurants in Groningen and has been awarded a Michelin star.

Overlooking the Prinsenhof, dine in style at Restaurant Nassau in Hotel Prinsenhof. The current restaurant was once the Prince of Nassau's sleeping quarters. Dine à la carte or opt for an "experience menu," where the chef draws inspiration from seasonal ingredients grown or cultivated locally. Sauces are the chef's specialty, and he also creates exquisite creations with vegetables. The enthusiastic mentions in Lekker, Gault&Millau, and the Michelin Guide are more than justified.
Martinikerkhof 23, Groningen – prinsenhof.nl
At Rooftop Merckt, on the sixth floor of this building on the Grote Markt square, you'll find breathtaking views of the city of Groningen. It's also one of the best restaurants in Groningen for fine dining. You won't have to choose, as you'll be treated to a four-course menu featuring pure ingredients and surprising combinations. Chef Thomas Beekhuis has been ranked among the best young chefs in the Northern Netherlands for years. Stick around after 11 pm for cocktails and oysters.
Grote Markt 33, Groningen – rooftopmerckt.nl
If you want to savor the authentic flavor of French cuisine, Bisque is the place to be. The interior exudes warmth and elegance, and you'll receive a warm welcome. Choose à la carte dining or opt for a 4-, 5-, or 6-course menu. The food is top-notch, and its mention in the Michelin Guide, Gault&Millau, and Lekker500 is more than deserved. In a short time, owners Niels Schievink and Sabrina Mans have made their mark on one of the best restaurants in Groningen.

The warm colors on the wood-paneled walls give Blumé a cozy feel. You can choose from a 3-, 5-, or 7-course tasting menu. You can complement this with a wine pairing and finish with a cheese board. The modern dishes on your plate are both visually stunning and delicious. You wouldn't expect anything less, as chef Henrice Dijks previously worked at top restaurants like De Librije and Onder de Linden. Looking for a place to stay in Groningen? Above this restaurant is the four-star boutique hotel Halbert.
Old Boteringestraat 45, Groningen – restaurantblume.nl
You'll instantly feel at home in this authentic neighborhood bistro. The earthy tones of the interior and the wooden tables create a real living room atmosphere. The menu changes every eight weeks, and the kitchen uses market-fresh ingredients. The vegetarian menu is also updated every eight weeks. Don't expect complicated preparations, just honest flavors. You can choose from two starters, one entrée, one main course, and one dessert. In good weather, take a seat on the terrace on the charming Frederikplein in the Oosterpoort.
Frederiksplein 7, Groningen – degrotefrederik.nl
The bright interior creates a welcoming atmosphere as you step inside, creating a homey feel. The large windows offer a great view of the outdoors while you dine, overlooking one of Groningen's oldest streets. Reservations are essential, as this homey restaurant is always busy. Choose from a 3-, 4-, or 5-course surprise menu featuring locally sourced ingredients. The homemade brioche buns that accompany your meal are also delicious.
Gelkingestraat 21, Groningen – debeteretijden.nl
For French cuisine with a creative twist, head to Niemeijer. In the open kitchen, you can watch the chef and staff working with ingredients from their own garden. The cuisine isn't entirely French, as the owners are unwavering in their roots. They also prepare dishes from Groningen cuisine with a French twist. How about lacquered farm duck with potato cake and crispy kale? This is one of Groningen's great restaurants and definitely one to keep an eye on.

At the corner of Oostersingel and WA Scholtenstraat, you'll discover the true meaning of the good life. The chef loves surprises, because there's no choice here, and there's no need to. The menu's ingredients are seasonal and sourced locally. The red mullet with sautéed mushrooms, grated Groningen dry sausage, a barbecued parsnip cream, and a shiitake and wheat beer sauce is perfectly balanced and original. With this dish and others on the menu, the chef demonstrates his mastery of various culinary techniques. You can taste the craftsmanship on your plate.
WA Scholtenstraat 39, Groningen – restaurantvoila.nl
Cicci's is short for Cicchetti, small Venetian-Italian dishes to share. How about calamari fritti with honey-garlic sauce? Here you'll find a wide variety of Venetian cuisine. Expect plenty of fish and vegetables, as well as delicious pastas. Besides sharing dishes, there's also a menu with a wide selection of à la carte dishes. Classics like gnocchi and ravioli are on the menu. And finally, no evening is complete without tiramisu to finish. We'll definitely be back!
High of the A 3, Groningen – ciccis.nl
Beer lovers shouldn't miss Brouw Bistro Dokjard. They brew their own beer in this old warehouse, and you can also enjoy a delicious meal at one of Groningen's charming restaurants. Each dish is paired with a beer of your choice. Also, try the beer bread and the goat cheese & hops to stay in the beer spirit. Having trouble choosing? Then go for the "I want/can't decide!" menu. Within this menu, the chef also takes any allergies or dietary requirements into account.
Noorderhaven Zz 63, Groningen – dokjard.nl
At Bellami's, you can pop in for a glass of wine at the wine bar and then linger for a meal. The bar exudes a Parisian atmosphere, and the menu features delicious French dishes. Think escargots, Dordogne mushrooms, and a shrimp cocktail. The menu features seasonal dishes, with a new menu released every few weeks. Need a break from shopping in Groningen? Treat yourself to the croque Bellami for lunch and enjoy a glass of wine from the extensive wine list.

This charming restaurant is housed in a former pump house. In good weather, it's wonderful to sit outside by the water. The restaurant is on the first floor. Downstairs, you can enjoy a cup of coffee, a drink, or lunch. The menu changes daily, and the chef uses locally sourced produce. He'll surprise you with a four-, five-, or six-course menu. We'll kick things off with Groningen yellow curry with a cucumber and geranium sorbet. The Wadden Sea bass is also deliciously prepared.
Small of the A 7, Groningen – hetpomphuis.nl
At Sepia, you're welcome for a leisurely lunch with a changing four-course menu. Sepia is only open for lunch, and it's definitely worth stopping by. Expect dishes from modern French cuisine with classic dishes given a modern twist. Vegetables play a prominent role here, and when it comes to meat, nothing is wasted. Organ meats are also served here in a delicious way. The chef makes his own oil with ingredients like nettle, wild garlic, and chives. These are intense flavor enhancers, as are elderflower and magnolia, which are frequently used.
JC Kapteynlaan 29, Groningen – restaurantsepia.nl
This restaurant, housed in a former gasworks around the corner from the Student Hotel, is a must-visit for anyone who enjoys dining in an industrial atmosphere. For lunch, the various shakshukas are highly recommended. In the evening, this is the perfect spot for a leisurely meal with a three- to five-course surprise menu from the chef, which can also be served entirely vegan upon request.
Langestraat 66, Groningen – Deoudegasfabriek.nl
Florentin is a truly unique restaurant. As soon as you step inside, you'll feel transported to Tel Aviv's Florentin neighborhood. Lines of laundry hang overhead, as is typical in this Tel Aviv neighborhood. The menu features Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and North African influences, meaning your table will be filled with the most deliciously fragrant dishes in no time. At FLO, up-and-coming DJs get every opportunity to showcase their talents. Enjoy a cocktail or a beer while listening to disco, funk, or house music.

Groningen Noord is booming, and gastrobar DOT is a fun cultural hotspot for dining, watching a movie, or relaxing on the city beach in the summer. The building, which used to be an infoversum, is a striking sight with its round dome. The menu offers a journey through the world of dishes perfect for sharing, and the restaurant is open from lunch until late. Tip: check the schedule before you go, because this former infoversum also has cinemas.
Vrydemalaan 2, Groningen – Dotgroningen.nl
In this Grand Cafe It's almost always busy. Downstairs, the mishmash of styles gives it a somewhat studenty feel, but the street food kitchen and wine bar on the upper floors are a reason to come here anyway. For a good glass of wine, a tasty cocktail, and a cheese board, charcuterie, or street food dishes from around the world.
Old Boteringestraat 26, Groningen – Mofongo.nl
From the first floor, it's wonderful to people-watch at the Vismarkt. Cappuvino is a coffee bar during the day and a cozy wine bar in the evening, perfect for drinks after a day of shopping.
Fish Market 1, Groningen – Cappuvino.com
Shabu-shabu is a traditional Japanese dish of thinly sliced, cooked beef strips and vegetables with dipping sauces. Hanasato is the only Japanese restaurant in the northern provinces that serves the original shabu-shabu. Everything here is washoku (authentic Japanese); they use real mirin and make their own ponzu sauce. All of this in a relaxing Japanese atmosphere.
Filled-in Zuiderdiep 55, Groningen – Hanasoto.nl
This all-day hotspot feels a bit like Groningen's living room. During the day, freelancers work there, later in the afternoon, groups of friends meet up, and the restaurant area is always bustling. But perhaps the terrace on this hidden square in the summer is the best reason to go there!
Hourworkersplein 1, Groningen – Uurwerker.nl

For authentic Asian ramen, pho, or buns, Konbu Streetfood is the place to be in Groningen. Start with some bites, like gyoza and dim sum, to share. Then order one of the pho or ramen dishes. The classic Shio ramen bowl is a must! Open from lunch through early dinner (they close at 21 PM), and reservations are essential.
Oosterstraat 10, Groningen – Konbunstreetfood.nl
This restaurant isn't just any old place to grab a bite to eat. The waiting list is over four months, but for good reason. There's no waitstaff at Restaurant de Haan, and chef Dennis de Haan isn't just behind the stove; he's also the host and does the dishes. The food is delicious and Michelin-starred!
Aweg 4, Groningen – Rrestaurantdehaan.nl
You'll have to drive a bit further to reach this restaurant. In the small Drenthe village of Westervelde, you'll find De Jufferen van Lunsingh, a beautiful country house where you can enjoy top-notch culinary delights in a shabby-chic interior with an English feel. You can also stay overnight.
Main road 13, Westervelde – Dejufferenlunsingh.nl
The food isn't overwhelming, but that's perfectly fine. The dishes stimulate your senses in every way, so you're guaranteed to be full by the end. The wine glasses could be poured a bit fuller, but perhaps that's the magic of this restaurant. It leaves you wanting more of everything, especially dessert. Because the tasting is truly delicious.
Oosterstraat 39, Groningen – Vivelaviegroningen.nl
In the summer, this hotspot boasts a hidden courtyard terrace where you can relax. But Block & Barrels is truly a must-see for artisanal food and drinks in any season. The menu features only the finest Groningen meat, which you'll see hanging in the aging cabinet as soon as you walk in. During the day, enjoy a cozy lunch at the bar, and in the evening, head upstairs for a delightful atmosphere beneath the historic building's old wooden beamed ceilings.
