MOOD 👀, I woke up really early today and was just scrolling through my photos of Bangkok 🌴.
Then I thought: how nice would it be if we shared our booked and wishlist destinations for inspiration?
Here's a safari in Malawi & Zimbabwe 🐆 in the books with a stopover in Nairobi.
I'm also going to Paris for a few nights by train with Manuel. So excited! I'm going to visit all the Parisian clichés and more with him ✌🏼.
Also on the wishlist: China (May holiday), midweek Athens & coast (summer), London (always a good idea), Amalfi & Rome (Manuel's dream for the autumn holiday) & Japan (Christmas holiday including skiing, tips welcome☺️).
My intention for 2026 is also to plan more fun days/nights away in the Netherlands.
And I would love to go to Japan solo, but well... first I have to get back to work 😅😉.
Speaking off: happy new week!!
I'd love to daydream about your travel plans.

I have a nice garden and a nice summer day 🖤
March = the month in which my favourite Sunday markets start up again in full swing.
So my Sunday plans are quickly made: stroll along stalls, discover new food trucks and go home with a bag full of organic products or a good vintage find.
What I love about it? Every market has its own vibe.
• @feelgoodmarket for creativity and live music in Eindhoven
• Vintage heaven at @ijhallen
• @sundaymarket with creative makers and food trucks
• Curated vintage & design gems at @cabinetamsterdam
• @fairpricedvintage for scoring vintage clothing at many locations in the Netherlands
Have fun!

If you only go to one terrace in Amsterdam this weekend, make it @caferestaurant.meyer! What a great addition to the Amstelveld 😍.
Open from 10am, a very nice lunch menu, a wine list with a bottle of rosé for €20, but also olive ice cream with caviar (incredibly delicious!).
I'll be back soon to try the evening menu as well.
Tip: you can make a reservation on the terrace!
And did I mention there's a playground next door?
Have a nice weekend 😘

Note to self: always leave room in your suitcase for souvenirs. During my ski trip to Méribel, I popped into the local pharmacy just before leaving, and these are the beauty products I took home.
They've been tested extensively and are all more than YLBB-approved. Save them for your next trip to France (or your online beauty store).
Which souvenirs always make it back in your suitcase? I'm curious!

Happy V-day 😘

Located in the Patershol district, Le Baan Thai is a Thai restaurant where vegetarians can also indulge themselves. The fresh produce, the delicious aromas, the beautifully presented plates, and the occasional spicy dish will awaken all your senses. In good weather, you can sit outside in the secluded courtyard. The restaurant has been a Ghent institution for over thirty years and remains popular. If you're having trouble choosing something from the extensive menu, The Siamese Promenade is highly recommended.
Corduwaniersstraat 57, Ghent – lebaanthai.be
Veggies, take note! This vegetarian restaurant, housed in a former pharmacy, is highly recommended. Create your own meal at the salad bar or choose one of the fully plant-based dishes on the menu. The dishes are not only plant-based, but also prepared without added sugars, saturated fats, or artificial flavors. Several gluten-free options are also available. Be sure to sample one of the delicious natural wines. On a sunny day, take your meal to go and enjoy it by the water.
Hoornstraat 13, Ghent – lebotaniste.eu
This restaurant, located on the Leie River, opened its doors in the 1920s. The charming 1830s building exudes a romantic atmosphere, a feeling that extends to the interior. Are you and your sweetheart spending a weekend in Ghent? Enjoy the food and each other's company at Patyntje. Choose fish, meat, or vegetarian dishes. Try local specialties like eel in its green sauce, Flemish-style asparagus, or Mechelen cuckoo vol-au-vent. Ask for the Belgian herbal liqueur as an aperitif.
Gordunakaai 91, Ghent – patyntje.com
The name Maste is derived from the owners' names: Sam and Stephanie. Chef Sam van Houcke competed in several international culinary competitions before opening his restaurant in Ghent. Hygge, the Danish word for coziness, is central to the restaurant. The owners also drew inspiration from Scandinavian style for the interior. They serve a set menu, and here too, you'll find Scandinavian dishes, albeit with a Belgian twist. Fish lovers will be in their element! It's no wonder Sam van Houcke was named Fish Chef of the Year.
Tondelierlaan 23, Ghent – restaurant-maste.be
Umamido is a ramen restaurant with locations in Ghent, Antwerp, and Leuven. The Belgian owner became hooked on ramen in Japan. Take a seat at the bar and watch the various dishes being prepared in the open kitchen. You won't have to wait long for your bowl of ramen. Try the "Chef's Original Ramen," ramen with tonkotsu broth, pork belly, kimchi, vegetables, and a marinated egg. Enjoy it with a delicious beer. Looking for a casual and relaxed atmosphere after a day of shopping in Ghent? Step inside Umamido.

One of Ghent's charming restaurants is this Japanese restaurant. While Japanese cuisine is primarily known for its sushi, Amatsu introduces you to a wide variety of Japanese dishes, such as yakisoba, unadon, tonkatsu, and gyoza. The dishes are, of course, served with accompanying sake. The flavors are mild, so if you're not a fan of spicy food, the various Japanese dishes are highly recommended. Besides the main course, many side dishes are served, such as miso soup, rice, wakame, and tsukemono, a type of Japanese cucumber. Experience authentic Japanese cuisine here.
Hoogpoort 29, Ghent – amatsu.be
A weekend in Ghent isn't complete without a visit to Vrijmoed. Book early, as this two-Michelin-star restaurant is fully booked weeks in advance. Experienced chef Michaël Vrijmoed heads the kitchen. He takes you on a culinary journey and is renowned for his vegetable menu. He uses various techniques to prepare vegetables. He knows how to come up with original dishes like poached turbot and bone broth. The wines, carefully selected by the sommelier, are also highly recommended.
Flanders Street 22, Ghent – vrijmoed.be
With a Michelin star, Horseele is one of the best restaurants in Ghent. The location, in the AA Gent football stadium, is a surprising one. Up on the fourth floor, you'll hardly notice you're in a football stadium. The warm and chic interior transports you to another world. Here, you'll enjoy dishes from modern French cuisine. You're welcome for lunch and dinner. Choose a set menu or dine à la carte, with lobster, tuna, and Wagyu available on the menu.
Ottergemsesteenweg Zuid 808, Ghent – restauranthorseele.be
One of Ghent's finest restaurants is OAK, awarded a Michelin star. The seventeenth-century building exudes a sense of grandeur, and its style is reflected in the interior. Marcelo Ballardin is at the helm of the kitchen. At lunchtime, you can enjoy a five-, six-, or seven-course menu, and in the evening, a delicious seven-course menu is served. The cuisine is cosmopolitan, with the chef drawing inspiration from his travels. Sample cassava root from the tropical rainforest or cockles from the North Sea. The combinations are surprising, and the execution is refined.
Burgstraat 16, Ghent – oakgent.be
The castle that houses Sensum makes a huge impression. Luxury and history go hand in hand at this Michelin-starred restaurant. Chef Maurice de Jaeger's Zeeland roots are evident in his dishes. He also crosses the border, playing with Asian flavors, such as in a cucumber, parsley, and yuzu sauce he serves with langoustines. Dine à la carte or choose one of the set menus. Each dish comes with a second plate, each accompanied by a side dish. The carefully selected wines from around the world complement the dishes perfectly.

Souvenir is one of Ghent's best Michelin-starred restaurants. The restaurant is divided into three spaces: the Bar, the Dining Room, and the Private Room. The sleek Scandinavian design, with the marble bar as a focal point, looks fantastic. The pink tones give the interior a warm feel. Sustainability is paramount, and dishes are served exclusively with seasonal ingredients. Vegetables are smoked, fermented, roasted, and marinated. With just a few ingredients, a fantastic dish can be created. The sauces are also delicious. We almost licked our plates clean.

The historic Patershol neighborhood in Ghent is home to countless delightful restaurants, including Karel de Stoute. Looking for a gastronomic evening? Chef Tom van Lysebetten cooks up a storm. Creativity and a focus on beauty are paramount to him. You can taste the love he pours into his cooking on your plate. You don't have to choose, as Karel de Stoute serves a set menu. Rabbit with plums, unlike anything you've ever tasted, or skrei with North Sea shrimp: they're all gems on your plate.
Vrouwebroersstraat 2, Ghent – restkareldestoute.be
Seafood and grilled dishes with a touch of the Basque Country—that's what you'll experience at Bar Bask. The chef himself describes his style as rock 'n' roll. The asador, the Basque grill, is the heart of the restaurant, where the most delicious dishes are prepared. Start the evening with Basque tapas, then move on to appetizers to share with your table companions. Then, sample a grilled dish and finish with dessert. If you follow your own style, you're guaranteed to leave the restaurant feeling satisfied at the end of the evening.

If you want to dine at Commotie, reservations are essential, three months in advance is no exception. Do you enjoy surprises? You're in the right place, as they offer a surprise menu. The menu remains a mystery until the very end, as you only receive it when you pay. You'll be completely captivated by your own taste buds as you dine, trying to guess what you're tasting. This menu can be paired with a wine, beer, or designated driver package. With 24 seats, the atmosphere is intimate, and there's plenty of attention for every guest.

Door73 offers a shared dining concept, which is perfect if you're struggling to choose. The interior is a mix of classic and modern, and the earthy tones of the tiled floor create a warm atmosphere. The staff is busy in the open kitchen. The Greek chef adds a Mediterranean touch to the menu. Dishes are divided into categories: Comfort, Trust, and Discover. Finish with something salty or sweet. We couldn't resist the Dame Blanche with salted caramel.

Rizoom's cuisine is inspired by Japan. Choose from a variety of dishes from the menu to share or opt for a delicious set menu. The kitchen employs various techniques, such as fermentation, smoking, and preserving, creating a unique style. The veal cheek, cooked for 16 hours, practically falls apart in your mouth and is packed with flavor. The amuse-bouches are also surprising and leave you wanting more. Rizoom is already scoring highly, and we wouldn't be surprised if that score rises even further.
New walk 62, Ghent – rizoomgent.be
Looking for pure, unpretentious food? The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed in this small restaurant with a seating capacity of twenty. You have to take your own cutlery from the drawer at your table. The wine also stays on the table, so you can pour yourself, and the menu hangs on a hook. This all contributes to Roots' homey atmosphere. The restaurant offers a set menu that focuses on local produce. Think meat from local farmers and fish from the North Sea, with a strong emphasis on vegetables. A new menu is introduced every week.
Vrouwebroersstraat 5, Ghent – rootsgent.be
The owners of this restaurant are passionate about Eastern flavors. Join them on a journey of discovery through Asia. Try Indonesian chicken satay with peanut sauce as a starter, and Vietnamese bun cha, a refreshing noodle salad, as a main course. The homemade ice cream with chocolate, caramel, and peanuts completes the evening. Although the owners are from Belgium, they understand the essence of Eastern cuisine. We'll definitely be back on a summer day and enjoy another delicious meal like this in the restaurant's private garden.
Hoogstraat 58, Ghent – afoodaffair.be
If you're in the Dampoort neighborhood, you can't miss a visit to Alberte. You can't miss the striking blue facade. The small, cozy building. In the kitchen, you can see the two chefs busily at work, adding to the informal atmosphere. This restaurant focuses on seasonal dishes, creatively prepared. Share a variety of small plates and enjoy the natural wines served. You don't have to choose, as the chefs are happy to surprise you with vegetables, shellfish, fish, poultry, or meat, and to finish off, a dessert.
Dendermondesteenweg 78, Ghent – alberte-gent.be
This restaurant isn't located in the center of Ghent, so it takes a bit of effort to get there, but it's definitely worth a visit. Reservations are welcome in the bar area, where you can enjoy appetizers and a few main courses. Reservations are required for the restaurant. The multi-course menu changes regularly, and vegetables play a starring role. Have you ever tried pear with a brown beer sabayon? You can here. The chef knows how to surprise you with every course.

Behind the facade of a large mansion on Ledebergplein lies a sleek and modern top-notch restaurant. It'll be difficult to choose between the chef's menu or à la carte. The Michelin Guide mention is more than justified. Start with shrimp croquettes with a delicious herb dip. The beef tartare with caviar and a dashi broth is also surprisingly delicious. Chef Matthias van Acker and his wife and hostess Nikki de Zaeyteyt combine delicious dishes with a pleasant and calm atmosphere. You'll find peace and tranquility here.
Ledebergplein 20, Ghent – talloordor.be
This sushi and sake bar is housed in a former school building. Sit at the bar for a great view of how the Japanese dishes are prepared and served, paired with sake or Japanese beer. Each dish is a true work of art. You can order the dishes from the menu or à la carte. The chef grew up in Japan, the son of a Japanese father, and gained experience cooking in top restaurants on the other side of the world. The diverse flavors are a true experience.
Oude Houtlei 13g, Ghent
"Een Twee Vijf" is the address of this restaurant, located near the hospital. This upscale eatery has a homey atmosphere. The menu offers three options for each course, including a vegetarian option. The dishes are seasonal and tastefully presented. The cod with shrimp beurre blanc, daikon salad, and grilled romaine lettuce is perfectly cooked. The lightly roasted mackerel with rhubarb and shiso broth is also a surprise. You'll want for nothing here.
Molenaarsstraat 125, Ghent – onetwofive.be
Restaurant Gillis takes its name from the city architect Gillis de Suttere, who signed the plans for Ghent's Great Butchers' Hall in the fifteenth century. Meat plays a starring role at Gillis. If you'd like a sirloin steak, you can choose from several different varieties. You can choose the meat yourself, which the staff will then roll to you on a serving trolley. The meat is buttery-tender and prepared with love. Our starter was a gratinated beef marrowbone. The pulled pork with Zeeland duroc tortilla is a signature dish and definitely worth trying.
Hoogstraat 23, Ghent – gillisgent.be
One of the best restaurants in Ghent for Thai food is Kin Khao. The cozy decor and location in the center of Ghent contribute to its popularity, and you haven't even tasted the food yet. Reservations are recommended, as it's always packed. Want our suggestions? The shrimp cake and the pad Thai are definitely worth it. Do you like surprises? Try the Kin Khao experience menu. Street food is taken to the next level here.

Lys d'Or is one of Ghent's finest restaurants, serving classic French cuisine. The black marble interior with gold accents exudes class and elegance, and the grand piano completes the look. The kitchen uses top-quality ingredients such as Anjou pigeon, North Sea sole, and turbot. Chef Wattenberge elevates these ingredients through his preparation. Side dishes play a smaller role and truly complement the main course. Fresh ravioli with scallops and a mushroom jus—we'll definitely be back!
Charles de Kerchovelaan 81, Ghent – lysdor.be
This restaurant started as a pop-up but has become a fixture in Ghent. Aroy Aroy means "delicious, delicious" in Thai, and brothers Jason and Michael Blanckaert guarantee that. They serve various Thai dishes with matching Belgian beers, which pair surprisingly well. Enjoy a delicious curry or pad Thai paired with a La Chouffe or a Geuze. These cooking brothers have even published a cookbook, so you can prepare their dishes at home too.
Lange Steenstraat 10, Ghent – aroyaroy.be
For French dishes with a modern twist, you're welcome at Boris & Maurice. These two friends decided to open a restaurant together, and it's been a resounding success. In this bistro, you'll feast on sea bream tartare with dill and candied lemon vinaigrette. They also know how to prepare lamb with a delicious twist. Finally, a bistro simply can't do without chocolate mousse; in this case, it's dark chocolate mousse with coffee caramel, crème fraîche, and nut crumble. The relaxed atmosphere makes you feel right at home at Boris & Maurice.
Antwerpsesteenweg 329, Ghent – boris-maurice.be
This brasserie sits on the banks of the Leie River, with a delightful waterside sun terrace. Sit at the bar for tapas and a drink, or take your time and savor the diverse French-Belgian brasserie cuisine. The menu features the chef's creative, weekly changing selections. The regular menu includes classics like vol au vent with sweetbreads and meatballs in tomato sauce. Have a boat? Sail over on a sunny afternoon and moor at Fou d'O's private jetty for a well-deserved break.

Heritage is one of Ghent's most popular restaurants. It's tucked away in the historic center of Ghent, in the Patershol. The young German chef gained experience in Michelin-starred restaurants and eventually settled in Ghent. The Latin American menu is a hit, with vegetables and fish playing a central role. Enchiladas and tortillas will make you long for Latin American flavors even more. Thanks to their preparation, these dishes suddenly have a gastronomic touch. The wines on the menu give the dishes that special something extra. Save room to finish the evening with a sorbet or delicious alfajores.

In an old mansion near the center of Ghent, you'll find Kruidtuin (Botanical Garden). From outside, the large window allows you to watch the hustle and bustle of the open kitchen. The restaurant's name is deliberate, as the dishes you'll find are prepared with herbs from their own garden. While the restaurant's decor is understated, the dishes are beautifully presented. The modern dishes are light and flavorful, and classics with a contemporary twist are also featured in the five-course dinner menu.
Kortrijksesteenweg 27, Ghent – kruidtuingent.be
At Grand Hotel Reylof, you'll find restaurant LOF. This restaurant serves classic French-Belgian cuisine. Choose a four-, five-, or six-course menu and indulge in an evening of pampering in this classic restaurant. Simplicity is key, with fish from the Oosterschelde and the North Sea taking center stage, along with local produce. The wines also perfectly complement the light dishes. We had a fantastic meal here; we wouldn't be surprised if our efforts were rewarded with another Michelin star.
Hoogstraat 36, Ghent – lofrestaurant.com
This historic building, dating back to 1739, houses both a restaurant and a boutique hotel. It has been renovated with a keen eye for taste and historical awareness. Besides the restaurant, there's also a wine bar where you can enjoy a glass of wine or an aperitif. The six-course dinner kicks off with three starters. A pig's head and lentil toast might not sound appetizing, but it is. The chef has transformed the oyster with passion fruit and lavender into a true work of art. Fish plays a significant role in Nonam's menu, and the chef doesn't shy away from experimenting.
Sluizekenkaai 1, Ghent – nonam.be
For a truly Italian evening, head to Osteria Per Bacco. Weather permitting, the terrace is the perfect spot. Start with antipasti and then move on to the delicious main courses. Gemelli pasta with rabbit ragout, olives, pancetta, and Parmesan not only sounds delicious, but the execution is also fantastic. Be sure to try one of the seasonal four-course menus for a complete experience. Per Bacco means OMG, and Per Bacco certainly delivers. Get ready for an Italian evening full of surprises.
Sint-Jacobsnieuwstraat 56, Ghent – perbacco.be
This Italian gem is one of Ghent's most charming restaurants. It's a true Italian taverna with a matching atmosphere. Enjoy delicious antipasti, fresh pasta, and fish or meat dishes, just as La Nonna used to prepare them. Choose from a fish, meat, or vegetarian menu. The specialty is piadina, Italian flatbread with various toppings, such as grilled zucchini and mortadella. The open kitchen contributes to the relaxed atmosphere. Enjoy a glass of wine with your meal and enjoy a relaxing evening, escaping to Italy for a moment.

Steendam 66, located in a historic building near St. James' Church, is easy to find. In this bistro, chef Bernard Baudewijns prepares nostalgic dishes with a modern twist. You can watch the chef at work in the open kitchen, preparing fish and meat dishes. The intimate atmosphere is a conscious choice, with only 24 seats. Steendam 66 operates a fixed menu, supplemented with seasonal specials. Be sure to try the King Crab, one of the specialties. The hand-cut fries are our guilty pleasure.

The Yalo Hotel is a great place to stay during your city break in Ghent. The Yalo Restaurant is also highly recommended. The glass roof creates a spacious feel. There are cozy seating areas scattered throughout the space, and a DJ provides live music. Enjoy luxurious appetizers like bimi, steak tartare, scallops, and oysters. The menu features primarily local ingredients and is perfect for sharing. Start your evening with a cocktail; Yalo's cocktail menu is also worth exploring.

Even on a rainy day, the owners of Pulpo By l'autre Vie make the sun shine with their Mediterranean dishes. Leave the gloomy weather behind and imagine yourself in southern Europe with tomato carpaccio with burrata and avocado or tagliolini with langoustine. Still looking for the perfect lunch spot? The terrace offers a beautiful view of the park and a daily changing lunch. The owners have also published a cookbook featuring delicious dishes from the south.

Brasserie Midi is located on the lively Koophandelsplein. In good weather, you can sit at an outdoor table and enjoy the view. Brothers Thomas and Louis Pauwels drew inspiration from Paris for both the menu and the interior. The marble bar is a real eye-catcher in this cozy brasserie. The brothers create a lively and relaxed atmosphere. Enjoy a delicious piece of meat or choose the eel in its green color. The wines on the menu are a welcome addition. This is the kind of place you'll keep coming back for more.

Chef Cederic de Mey creates the atmosphere of a Parisian bistro with Ce's Arts, featuring an interior of dark and warm colors. You're also welcome to take a seat at the Chef's Table for a surprise menu. A set menu is served at lunchtime, and à la carte dining is available in the evenings. The menu follows the rhythm of the seasons. The cauliflower beignets and bouillabaisse we enjoyed were delicious. Classic dishes are served with a modern twist.

The Sicilian cuisine and warm interior will make you long for the south. Of the many Italian restaurants in Ghent, this one truly stands out. Vegetarians are also catered to here, which isn't always the case in Italian restaurants. The pumpkin millefeuille with goat cheese, mushrooms, and pickled beetroot is a real surprise alongside the fish and meat dishes on the menu. Besides an à la carte menu, you can also opt for a four-course meal with a cheese board as an extra.

Culinary masterpieces appear on your plate at Jour de Fête, and that's only natural in this artistic neighborhood. You're welcome for lunch and dinner, or for a drink and a snack at the bar. The cuisine is worldly, with options like miso soup and tofu, fish lasagna, marinated leg of lamb with a princess bean salad, or blinis with herring caviar and sour cream. Craving a Tompoes (a typical Dutch dish)? End your evening with a Tompoes for dessert, because it's on the menu.

Want to experience authentic Belgian cuisine during your visit to Ghent? Mémé Gusta is one of Ghent's charming restaurants that focuses on all the delicious treats Belgium has to offer. As soon as you step inside, you'll feel right at home in the cozy, vintage interior. Not many Dutch people know this, but this restaurant participated in the Belgian television program "Mijn Pop-uprestaurant" a few years ago, and it proved to be a true gem. Enjoy shrimp-stuffed tomatoes, cheese croquettes, or steak Bernaise. Delicious Flemish stews are also on the menu.

Peruvian flavors pair beautifully with Japanese cuisine, and you'll experience that at Mochica. There's even a term for this blend: nikkei. True foodies will be in their element here. Enjoy a three- to five-course menu and be sure to try the chef's signature dish: ceviche, fish with a lemon marinade. Short on time? The bar is also a great place to relax, offering a variety of bar bites. Mochica has big ambitions, making it a restaurant to keep an eye on.

It's easy to guess that this restaurant is located in a former warehouse. The building's industrial atmosphere has been preserved. The dishes are French-Italian brasserie cuisine, and you can also enjoy oysters and seafood dishes. Pakhuis has its own farm in the Bresse region. The guinea fowl, pork, and lamb on the menu come from the farm. You can dine à la carte, and Pakhuis also offers a delicious lunch menu. In the evening, you can choose from the Pakhuis Menu or the Market Menu.

Where the Gouden Hoofd (Golden Head) stood for years, the trendy restaurant Raaf has now opened. The two young chefs are also friends and have wanted to start a restaurant together for years. Raaf consists of two parts. In one room, you can have a drink and enjoy a small menu. In the other room, you'll find the restaurant, where you can order a five-, six-, or seven-course menu. A vegetarian option is also available for each course. The dishes are of a gourmet standard and are served in an informal atmosphere. Be sure to try one of the natural wines.

Not in the city center, but with a very photogenic interior and worth a visit for a homemade lunch or brunch with a special latte.

At this coffee bar everything is completely plant-based, so you drink your cappuccino with oat milk instead of cow's milk.

At the Friday market, this is my favorite spot to have an aperitif at the end of the day with a delicious charcuterie and cheese platter.

This local favourite is recommended for an (extensive) lunch while shopping, but in the evening you can also eat dishes from grandmother's time with a modern twist.

This quintessential Ghent café is located near the historic center. In winter, it's wonderful to relax on the benches upstairs, and in summer, you can spend the whole afternoon on the terrace with a Belgian beer.

Chocolatier Marijn Coertjens creates pralines with surprising flavor combinations that also look beautiful. "The Giraffe" is definitely recommended, a delicious praline with white chocolate and lemon jelly.

This restaurant serves the very best ribs in Ghent, and it's become a true institution in the city. I personally prefer to sit at the front by the window, where you have a beautiful view of the characteristic Jan Breydelstraat.

Alice is located in a beautiful mansion in Onderbergen. It's a wonderful place for breakfast, lunch, or a slice of cake in the afternoon. The French style of the restaurant creates a cozy and unique atmosphere.
