24 Best Hotels in Dubai: From Beach Resorts to Desert Stays

From new design hotels in Downtown to iconic beach resorts and unique desert stays: the choice in Dubai is vast. In this YLBB selection, you will find the best hotels in Dubai, categorized by neighborhood and type of trip. Featuring luxury spots, family hotels, design favorites, wellness retreats, heritage stays, and places outside the city.

Dubai is a destination I have visited several times. Because I enjoy flying with Emirates, I have often made it a stopover. The last time, I traveled there with my son when he was still a baby. Since then, so many new hotels have opened that Dubai is high on my list again.

For my next trip, I'm especially looking forward to testing out as many of these new hotels as possible. From flamboyant resorts where everything is grand and over the top, to quiet beach hotels, design hotspots right in the city center, and places that are a lot more affordable. And let's be honest: the desert stays are definitely high on my list. I found the desert around Dubai so beautiful, and the oryxes there truly impressive to see.

These are the best (new) hotels in Dubai

That is why I do not want to collect only the well-known luxury names in this list. It is precisely the differences that make it interesting. Where do you book when traveling with children? Where can you enjoy a nice stay right by the beach? Which hotel do you choose for design, food, wellness, or perhaps a few nights in the desert? From the enormous selection, I have chosen 24 hotels that each add something in their own way, making it easier for you to choose what suits your Dubai trip.

Best hotels in Dubai for every type of trip

Don't feel like going through all the hotels? These are the addresses I would check first, depending on the type of Dubai trip you want to take.

For city luxury: Mandarin Oriental Downtown , Dubai – new, central, plenty of wellness facilities and restaurants, without a resort feel.

For full-on Dubai with kids: Atlantis The Royal – maximalist, lots of restaurants, pools, and beach clubs, plus Aquaventure. Dubai on all-inclusive.

For a full-on Dubai without kids: Bvlgari Resort Dubai – Italian design, a beach, a private marina, and good restaurants. Much quieter than Atlantis, but still distinctly luxurious.

On our radar in this category: Jumeirah Burj Al Arab – still the ultimate Dubai icon. The hotel is currently undergoing a phased renovation that, according to Jumeirah, will take approximately eighteen months. Therefore, I would always check current availability and status first for a future trip.

For quiet luxury: One&Only The Palm – quieter and smaller scale than the large Palm resorts, with a beach, good restaurants, and plenty of privacy.

For design & dining: The Lana, Dorchester Collection – Gilles & Boissier, Dior Spa, a rooftop pool, and restaurants you would also make separate reservations for.

For a cool city hotel: 25hours Hotel One Central – lots of character, a rooftop pool, and a more informal atmosphere than classic luxury hotels.

For Old Dubai: XVA Art Hotel – fifteen rooms, art, courtyards, and right in the middle of Al Fahidi.

For the desert: Bab Al Shams – lots of desert atmosphere, activities, and enough facilities to stay here for a few days with children as well.

For something totally different: JA Hatta Fort Hotel – mountains, hikes, Hatta Dam, and being outdoors instead of skylines and beach clubs.

For Dubai with kids: Jumeirah Al Naseem – beach, kids club, and all the facilities of Madinat Jumeirah nearby.

Where to stay in Dubai? These are the best neighborhoods for your hotel.

Where you stay really makes a difference in Dubai. If you mainly want the beach, pools, and to spend a lot of time at your hotel, then Palm Jumeirah and Jumeirah make the right choice. For the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and city restaurants, you are better off around Downtown and Business Bay. Dubai Marina, JBR, and Bluewaters are livelier and combine the beach with plenty of restaurants and nightlife. For a completely different side of Dubai, Al Fahidi and the desert stays are interesting.

Palm Jumeirah

You book here primarily for resort life: beaches, large pools, restaurants, and hotels where you can easily spend a few days barely needing to leave. From the maximalist Atlantis The Royal to the tranquil One&Only The Palm.

Jumeirah & Madinat Jumeirah

It's nice if you want to sit by the beach, but not quite on Palm Jumeirah. Here you'll find luxury resorts, beach clubs, and restaurants, and you're closer to Downtown. Bvlgari Resort Dubai is also located in this part of the city, on Jumeira Bay Island.

Downtown, Business Bay & Za'abeel

Choose this part of Dubai if you are primarily coming for the city. The Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, restaurants, and many new urban hotels are located relatively close by. This is also where you will find a number of the newest hotel openings.

Dubai Marina, JBR & Bluewaters

A good choice if you want to combine the beach with plenty of liveliness. Around the Marina and JBR, you can easily reach restaurants, beach clubs, and the boulevard. Bluewaters is located right next door and features Delano Dubai and Banyan Tree Dubai , among others.

Old Dubai & Al Fahidi

Here, the focus is less on large resorts and more on history, art, and the atmosphere around Dubai Creek. It is especially nice if you are looking for a smaller hotel and also want to see a different side of Dubai.

Desert & Hatta

For a stay outside the city. In the desert, you sleep among the dunes and can combine Dubai with nature and wildlife. Hatta is located towards the Hajar Mountains and is particularly interesting for mountains, hikes, and being outdoors.

Bvlgari Resort Dubai

Bvlgari Resort Dubai is located on Jumeira Bay Island and features its own marina, private beach, and Yacht Club. The Italian signature is also reflected in the restaurants. The spa covers 1.700 m² and features seven treatment rooms, a hammam, and a 25-meter indoor pool. For children, there is the Little Gems Clvb with its own children's pool and activities.

Jumeirah Burj Al Arab

For me , Jumeirah Burj Al Arab still belongs on a list of extraordinary hotels in Dubai. The sail-shaped hotel on its own island has grown into one of the city's most famous buildings since its opening in 1999 and features 198 suites.

It is good to know if you are booking now: Jumeirah has announced a phased renovation in April 2026 that will last approximately eighteen months. Interior architect Tristan Auer is leading the renovation. Because it involves a phased program, I would always check current availability and any ongoing work before departure.

Arabian Boutique Hotel is located in Al Shindagha, by Dubai Creek, and is housed in two historic houses. There are a total of twenty rooms and suites. One of the houses was the residence of Thani bin Abdullah Al-Rumaiti, who was the first president of the Federal National Council.

This is exactly the hotel to choose if you want to see more of old Dubai. Al Ghubaiba metro station is about a one-minute walk away, and the Creek and the souks are also located in this part of the city. For food, there is Arabian Fish House, with plenty of fish and Emirati flavors on the menu.

Best hotels in Dubai: Desert & outside the city

Al Maha, a Luxury Collection Desert Resort & Spa

Al Maha is situated in the heart of the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. The resort consists of 42 villas, and each villa features a private temperature-controlled pool with a view of the desert. Precisely because you are staying in the middle of the protected area, a large part of the experience revolves around nature. Activities include wildlife drives, camel treks, nature walks, archery, and falconry. Oryxes and gazelles also roam freely in the reserve.

This is exactly the kind of desert stay I am personally very curious about for a future trip. I found the desert around Dubai really beautiful during previous trips, and I found the oryxes impressive to see. So here, you don't just sleep in the desert, but you truly become part of it.

The official Meliá information lists polo lessons, horseback riding, yoga, and bird watching as activities, among others. For wellness, there is Samāna Spa with seven spa suites, as well as the Stables fitness center. In terms of restaurants, there are Epicure, Rare, and Red.

Coming soon: new hotels in Dubai that are already on our radar

Dubai is not done with new hotels just yet. These locations are on my radar, but have yet to open at the time of writing this article.

ZUHHA Resort

A new private island project featuring 70 waterfront resort villas. The official project website announces restaurants and leisure facilities, among other things, but no concrete opening date yet. One to keep an eye on.

Baccarat Hotel & Residences Dubai

Baccarat is getting a hotel in Downtown Dubai, in two crystal-like towers by Studio Libeskind. The project is under construction and will include restaurants, a spa, and pools, among other amenities. Various earlier schedules have been communicated regarding the exact opening, so I would only mention that once the developer confirms a definitive date.

Kimpton Sevn Dubai

Kimpton is coming to Business Bay. IHG currently still has the hotel listed in its organization as a pre-opening. The brand has not yet clearly communicated a definitive opening date, so here too, we will rely on the official update.

The Hoxton, Dubai Media City

I find this one particularly interesting for YLBB. The Hoxton has announced its first hotel in the UAE in Dubai Media City, featuring 230 rooms, Paris Society restaurants, and the brand's first wellness club. An opening date has not yet been announced.

MGM, Bellagio & ARIA Dubai

In the longer term, another notable project is coming to the Dubai coast. MGM Resorts confirms a management agreement with Wasl Hospitality for the arrival of MGM Grand, Bellagio, and ARIA in Dubai. As long as MGM itself has not yet published definitive opening information, we are deliberately limiting ourselves to the project status here.

How we select these hotels in Dubai

For Your Little Black Book, I do not create hotel lists based on a single award, ranking, or existing list. For this selection in Dubai, I combine my own experiences in the city with current research.

In doing so, I primarily look at what a hotel adds to this list. Consider the location, concept, design, food, wellness, and facilities, but also the type of trip for which a hotel is interesting. A large beach resort must offer something different from a small-scale heritage hotel or an address in the desert.

Dubai is changing rapidly, and new hotels are constantly opening. These are the hotels we would choose right now, depending on the type of trip we have planned. For beach and resort life, I personally tend to look at Jumeirah or Palm Jumeirah, while Downtown and Business Bay are better if you plan to spend a lot of time in the city. And if you have the time, I would definitely combine a stay in the desert or Hatta with a few nights in Dubai itself. That way, you really discover the different sides of Dubai.
