This is the coolest new hotel for a night away! Meet @viaantwerp, Antwerp's newest boutique hotel on the border of Zurenborg and Borgerhout (yep, voted the 2nd coolest neighborhood in the world by Time Out).
I recently stayed at this gem, and it truly has it all: a lively bar with a cozy atmosphere, walls adorned with creative art, beautiful, bright rooms, and it's within walking distance of great hotspots. And I haven't even mentioned @mea.antwerp! The delightful restaurant, helmed by a chef who previously worked at The Palomar in London. If you know, you know!

HOME ALONE 4 INCOMING 😅 My trip to NYC ends in a bad (Christmas) movie when the hotel gives my carry-on luggage with passport to an old lady who doesn't realize this and checks the luggage on a flight to the UK!
Now I'm stuck here in NY without a passport, and I missed my flight.
I've experienced a lot in all the years I've been traveling for Your Little Black Book, but this is a first 😅.
This chat video is purely therapeutic in nature 🤣🤣🤣. Because really: HOW?! 🫢
Note to self: it's better to carry your passport all day, instead of leaving it "safely" in the hotel, apparently... and from now on, attach suitcases with cables in the storage room. Even if you're staying in a luxurious and expensive hotel, everything is still done by humans.
Now I'm stuck in one of the world's coolest cities, but of course I just want to be home with Manuel, as planned. 😔

How cool is this? There are places in the Netherlands where you can cut down your own Christmas tree! You don't hear about it very often, even though it's quite common in America (where I'm currently!).
Good to know: some of these places in the Netherlands are only open for a few days a year and you have to reserve a time slot.

This time we went to @williams.farmhouse, one of my favorite lunch spots in Amsterdam Oud-Zuid. But is it also fun during the day with kids?
We ordered a 'plain' version of the Farmhouse burger 🍔: yes, really just meat + cheese 🤣… and together with the fries it was a mega success.
Happy child, happy us... and it was such a cozy, rainy afternoon. I mean, this interior makes me dream of the Cotswolds again!

The Beef Chief
Owner Simon can easily be called the mad scientist of burger making. Always improving. The Noord location has moved to the new Oedipus Brewing site, and the Oost location is entirely theirs. The 'Fry me a river' is their version of the Oklahoma-style smash burger, meaning onions are smashed into the meat. It also features American cheese, smoked cheddar, and homemade burger sauce. Juicy!

The Smash
A real hit! Opened by two friends with a wealth of experience in the (upscale) hospitality industry, Le Smash serves a single smash burger made with dry-aged beef, cheddar, onions, and pickles. The only choice you have to make is whether to go with ketchup and mustard, or their special (and secret) sauce. Think of the special sauce as something akin to that famous yellow M. Le Smash's success is being followed by additional locations in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

The best smash burger in Amsterdam
Bar Bonnie
Not a dedicated burger joint, but 'just' your usual cozy neighborhood café on the corner. We always have a good time at Bar Bonnie, and yes, that's definitely partly because of the smash burger. Here, it's served with a double patty, so two burgers on a bun. Add perfectly melted cheddar and fries from Frites uit Zuyd, and you have a burger worthy of this list. Many people opt for the truffle fries, but that's a matter of taste, of course.

Always easily recognizable by the blue branding and the yellow smiley skewer in the burger. While it all looks great, it's much more important that it tastes amazing. True experts, once again, with a small but excellent menu. The smash burger is made with 100% Dutch beef and comes standard with Irish cheddar, a bit of spicy aioli, and lettuce. You can also add ingredients like bacon or pickles to your liking.

Maijard Smashburger
Maybe it's because of TikTok, but we think it's simply those delicious burgers. Whatever the reason, you sometimes have to wait in line at Maijard's. With the arrival of a second location, this 'problem' seems to be solved, so you can always enjoy their smash burger in Amsterdam City Center. A classic smash burger, with a double patty if you like, with their special sauce, and that sauce... that's what makes it so good!
