Owner Simon can be called the mad scientist of burger making, always perfecting his craft. The location in Noord has moved to the new spot at Oedipus Brewing, and the location in Oost is completely “theirs.” The ‘Fry me a river’ is their take on the Oklahoma-style smash burger, meaning the onions are smashed into the meat. Add American cheese, smoked cheddar, and homemade burger sauce. Juicy!

Le Smash
A smash hit! Opened by two friends with plenty of experience in (high-end) hospitality. At Le Smash, they serve one type of smash burger: dry-aged beef with cheddar, onions, and pickles. The only decision you need to make is whether to go for ketchup and mustard or their special (and secret) sauce. Think of the special sauce as a little like the one from that famous golden M. Le Smash’s success has led to an additional location in Amsterdam and one in Rotterdam.

Bar Bonnie
Not a dedicated burger joint, but rather your cosy neighbourhood café on the corner. We always have a great time at Bar Bonnie, and yes, that’s partly because of the smash burger. Here, it’s served with a double patty, so two burgers in one bun. Add perfectly melted cheddar and fries from Frites uit Zuyd, and you have a well-deserved spot on this list. Many people opt for the truffle fries, but that’s, of course, a matter of taste.

Always easy to spot with their blue branding and yellow smiley burger skewer. It looks great, but more importantly, it tastes amazing. True experts once again, with a small but perfect menu. The smash burger is made from 100% Dutch beef and comes standard with Irish cheddar, slightly spicy aioli, and lettuce. You can also add ingredients like bacon or pickles to your liking.

Maijard Smashburger
Maybe it’s because of TikTok, but we think it’s really because of those delicious burgers. Whatever the reason, you might have to wait in line at Maijard. With a second location now open, this “problem” seems to be solved, so you can always enjoy their smash burger in Amsterdam’s city center. A classic smash burger, double patty optional, with their special sauce—and that sauce… it’s what makes it truly delicious!
