13 X Athens Restaurants You'll Want on Your Radar

September 1 2017
Last updated: September 14, 2020

In our opinion, these are the nicest and best restaurants in Athens!

When you think of Greece, you might immediately think of gyros, souvlaki, and fried squid rings. But believe me, the food in Athens is so much more than that. Even at the first restaurant we visited during our last trip to Athens, I felt just as I did on our trips to Thessaloniki en Santorini I feel like I could live here. The frappés for breakfast, the grilled octopus, fava bean hummus, and feta in all shapes and flavors.

𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗪𝗘𝗥𝗣𝗘𝗡 𝗚𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗬 👀 This is the coolest new hotel for a night away! Meet @viaantwerp , the newest boutique hotel in Antwerp on the border of Zurenborg and Borgerhout (yep, voted 2nd coolest neighborhood in the world by Time Out). I recently stayed at this gem and this hotel really has it all: a lively bar with a cozy atmosphere, walls full of creative art, beautiful bright rooms and it's within walking distance of great hotspots. And I haven't even mentioned @mea.antwerp! The delicious restaurant with a chef behind the pans who previously cooked at The Palomar in London. If you know, you know! And now the best news: I can surprise one of you with a dream night away at VIA Antwerp. 💛 𝗪𝗔𝗧 𝗝𝗘 𝗞𝗨𝗡𝗧 𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗡 • Overnight stay for 2 people • Breakfast included • Chef's dinner at MEA 𝗭𝗢 𝗠𝗔𝗔𝗞 𝗝𝗘 𝗞𝗔𝗡𝗦 • Let us know in the comments which friend you would like to stay here with • Of course, also take a look at @viaantwerp & @mea.antwerp to dream away and follow their updates The winner will be notified personally via DM on December 10th. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and will soon share a mini guide with more great tips for Antwerp! 🖤 ✖️✖️✖️ 🖊️ @anne_de_buck #antwerp #antwerp #zurenborg #antwerpencity #borgerhout

Think twinkling lights, mulled wine, food stalls, live music, unique gifts and lots of Christmas vibes all December long. Whether you're planning a festive day with the fam or friends, or just want to soak up that holiday spirit. These are the markets in Amsterdam to put on your calendar now. 🎄✨ 𝘿𝙧𝙤𝙥 “𝘾𝙃𝙍𝙄𝙎𝙏𝙈𝘼𝙎𝙈𝘼𝙍𝙆𝙀𝙏” 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄'𝙡𝙡 𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝙔𝙇𝘽𝘽-𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩𝙨. HOME ALONE 4 INCOMING 😅 My trip to NYC ends in a bad (Christmas) movie when the hotel gives my carry-on with my passport to an old lady who doesn't realize it and checks it in for a flight to the UK! Now I'm stuck here in NY without my passport, and I've missed my flight. I've experienced a lot in all the years I've been traveling for Your Little Black Book, but this is a first 😅. This chat video is purely therapeutic in nature 🤣🤣🤣. Because really: HOW?! 🫢 Note to self: better to take my passport with me all day, instead of leaving it 'safely' in the hotel apparently... and from now on, suitcases should be tied together with a cable in the storage room. Even if you're in a luxurious and expensive hotel, everything is still human work. Now I'm stuck in one of the nicest cities in the world, but of course I just want to be home with Manuel as planned. 😔 To be continued 🧳✈️ And thanks for all the sweet DMs ❤️❤️❤️❤️ ✖️✖️✖️ Anne
And do you also have a nice garden? I want to thank you for your patience and help. 𝟳-𝗷𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲! This time we went to @williams.farmhouse one of my favorites for lunch in Amsterdam Oud-Zuid. But is this also fun during the day with kids? We ordered a 'plain' version of the Farmhouse burger 🍔: yes, really just meat + cheese 🤣… and together with the fries it was a mega success. Child happy, us happy… and it was such a cozy, rainy afternoon. I mean this interior, I immediately dream away to the Cotswolds again! Do you have a favorite 𝗸𝗶𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁 in Amsterdam or the Netherlands? Let me know in the comments, I'll collect all for the next 𝗞𝗜𝗗𝗦𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗘𝗙! ✖️✖️✖️ 🖊️ @anne_de_buck #amsterdam #amsterdamfood #amsterdamrestaurants #amsterdamfoodie #amsterdamguide amsterdamwithkids kidsproef familyfriendly amsterdamlunch amsterdamoudzuid yourlittleblackbook kidsproofamsterdam

13 Best Restaurants in Athens Not to Miss

Nolan: Right next to our hotel (we stayed at the beautiful Electra Metropolis Hotel) was perhaps one of the best restaurants in Athens right now. At Nolan, you'll find modern dishes made with the finest local ingredients and a Greek twist. If you're visiting Athens, be sure to reserve a table at this charming gastrobar in the evening! Enjoy people-watching on the terrace in good weather. The menu changes regularly, but the zucchini salad and the grilled baby barracuda are highly recommended!

Electra Metropolis Hotel: When I go on a city break, I prefer to stay in a nice hotel in a prime location. The Electra Metropolis Hotel in Athens is such a perfect base. It's around the corner from several great restaurants and within walking distance of Monastiraki Square, and it has a fantastic rooftop pool and a wonderful spa with a sauna to relax in after a day exploring the city. Can you picture yourself having breakfast on the rooftop terrace with a view of the Acropolis?

Ergon: When I was in Thessaloniki a few years ago, Ergon's first food store/restaurant had just opened. In Athens, you'll find this restaurant right across from the entrance to the Electra Metropolis Hotel. Share different dishes from the menu to try as much as possible!

Funky Gourmet: Without a doubt, one of the best restaurants in Athens. They have a Michelin star for a reason! If you dine here in good weather, reserve a table on the balcony, where you'll find a wonderful seating area. Expect one surprise after another on the menu, with dishes served on cold ice, and nothing is as it seems!

Otto: From breakfast to cocktails, Otto is your go-to spot in Athens. It boasts a sugary-sweet pink interior, a large terrace perfect for people-watching, and traditional Greek dishes. Be sure to try the cheese pie with feta and spinach!

Bobo Wine Bar: I secretly find bars that serve good wine and offer delicious food sometimes more enjoyable than a regular restaurant. A perfect spot for drinks that lead to appetizers, and more appetizers, and more... and before you know it, you've tried almost every delicious thing on the menu, along with the accompanying wines.

Cherchez La Femme: Step into Cherchez La Femme and feel like you're in a Parisian bistro in the heart of Athens. Green marble, a wooden bar, and fresh wildflowers on the tables. I went there for lunch, and my, oh my, it was delicious. The menu features Greek dishes perfect for sharing. The eggplant salad and dolmades are highly recommended!

Pink Flamingo: Oh yes! The dim sum trend has also arrived in Athens. Pink Flamingo is a hole-in-the-wall dim sum shop with a cheerful pink neon sign and a terrace full of white tables. Check off what you want on the slip of paper, order at the counter, and moments later your table will be filled with steamed buns and dumplings.
Skoufou 2, Athens, Greece – check Facebook

Melilotos: This little restaurant has a lovely terrace, but perhaps an even nicer interior. Open from lunch to dinner and with a menu full of Greek dishes, it's a perfect spot for a bite to eat or a drink while shopping near the main shopping street Ermou.

Avocado: Not as trendy as The Avocado Show in Amsterdam, but it's 100% vegetarian and even offers plenty of vegan options. So if you prefer plant-based food, put this cafe on your must-visit list. I also recommend it for the fresh juices, which you can also grab to go!
Nikis 30, Athens, Greece – avocadoathens.com

Bel Ray: The Koukaki neighborhood is home to several great hotspots. On the edge of the neighborhood, Bel Ray is a must-see. You can go there for everything from breakfast to late-night drinks! We went there for lunch and had falafel. It might not be what you expect, but falafel is incredibly popular in Athens!
