You can't ignore it anymore: the Marineterrein is hot. Besides the endless strolls along the jetty during the summer months (admit it: you've done that yourself) and swimming in the waters next to the Maritime Museum, the area also boasts numerous hotspots. The Scheepskameel (Ship Camel) has been there for years, but many more great spots have been added. These are the best hotspots at Marineterrein Amsterdam.

Marineterrein Amsterdam
As early as the seventeenth century (!), the Marineterrein Amsterdam served as a naval base, then part of the Admiralty of Amsterdam. Later, it became part of the Royal Netherlands Navy. After the Cold War, the now-iconic site lost its significance, and in 2015, it was opened to the public for the first time. Since then, it has been used as a laboratory (you've probably noticed the large number of office buildings) and a public space, which now houses quite a few hotspots. We've listed seven of the best hotspots at the Marineterrein – you'll find them below.

Ship's camel
In 2016 we wrote about Ship camel as the 'second restaurant of Lille'It's now surpassed that title. Scheepskameel is undoubtedly one of Amsterdam's best restaurants, if only for their fantastic (German!) wine selection and the fantastic madeleines they serve for dessert. If you know, you know.

Summer Counter
Summer Bar (located in the former shooting range of the Marineterrein) is now known as "Zomer Loket," but the idea remains the same: a vibrant place focused on natural wine and good, uncomplicated food, in a different location each season. This summer, Zomer Loket has set up shop at the Marineterrein. You can drink wines from Sebonsa (also the initiator) and eat bread from Kometen (their Brood Loket has been located here for some time, hence the name). Monika Blažević developed the promising evening menu. In short: go there!

Kanteen25 & Rooms25
Right on the waterfront, you'll find Kanteen25, a cozy spot for lunch, dinner, and events (tip!). Their menu is diverse: from sea bass ceviche to asparagus, and they have an extensive snack menu. On Saturdays, they serve an extensive Saturday Brunch, which is definitely worth a visit. Kanteen25 is part of the boutique hotel Rooms25, which is housed in the same building. This charming hotel offers several unique designer rooms and suites.

Guesthouse & Brewery Homeland
At Brouwerij Homeland, they brew their own beer, right in the city center. Naturally, that also means a place to serve it, which is how Pension Homeland has become a cult spot for craft beer in recent years. But there's more to find here than just beer. They serve lunch, dinner, drinks, coffee, and pastries in their café and restaurant area, as well as their deli. They also have several rooms for overnight stays (hence the name) with vintage 1960s decor. And indeed, it's as good as it sounds.

Neighborhood farm Central
Neighborhood Farm Centraal is open to everyone—whether you're on a budget or a budget. A refreshing initiative in a city that's only getting more expensive. A cup of tea or filter coffee starts at just €1,50, and with a City Pass, you get a discount on food. There's also a free cultural offering, and this cozy lunchroom serves truly delicious sandwiches. Every Thursday evening, they also serve a three-course dinner for €19,50.

Kuuma Sauna
Not a hotspot for food and drinks, but definitely worth a visit: the Kuuma Saunas on the Marineterrein. Right on the jetties, you'll find this wonderful sauna, which you can rent by time slot for yourself or a group.

This is the coolest new hotel for a night away! Meet @viaantwerp, Antwerp's newest boutique hotel on the border of Zurenborg and Borgerhout (yep, voted the 2nd coolest neighborhood in the world by Time Out).
I recently stayed at this gem, and it truly has it all: a lively bar with a cozy atmosphere, walls adorned with creative art, beautiful, bright rooms, and it's within walking distance of great hotspots. And I haven't even mentioned @mea.antwerp! The delightful restaurant, helmed by a chef who previously worked at The Palomar in London. If you know, you know!

HOME ALONE 4 INCOMING 😅 My trip to NYC ends in a bad (Christmas) movie when the hotel gives my carry-on luggage with passport to an old lady who doesn't realize this and checks the luggage on a flight to the UK!
Now I'm stuck here in NY without a passport, and I missed my flight.
I've experienced a lot in all the years I've been traveling for Your Little Black Book, but this is a first 😅.
This chat video is purely therapeutic in nature 🤣🤣🤣. Because really: HOW?! 🫢
Note to self: it's better to carry your passport all day, instead of leaving it "safely" in the hotel, apparently... and from now on, attach suitcases with cables in the storage room. Even if you're staying in a luxurious and expensive hotel, everything is still done by humans.
Now I'm stuck in one of the world's coolest cities, but of course I just want to be home with Manuel, as planned. 😔

How cool is this? There are places in the Netherlands where you can cut down your own Christmas tree! You don't hear about it very often, even though it's quite common in America (where I'm currently!).
Good to know: some of these places in the Netherlands are only open for a few days a year and you have to reserve a time slot.

This time we went to @williams.farmhouse, one of my favorite lunch spots in Amsterdam Oud-Zuid. But is it also fun during the day with kids?
We ordered a 'plain' version of the Farmhouse burger 🍔: yes, really just meat + cheese 🤣… and together with the fries it was a mega success.
Happy child, happy us... and it was such a cozy, rainy afternoon. I mean, this interior makes me dream of the Cotswolds again!
