Oh, the Netherlands, you're so beautiful! And we've thoroughly enjoyed all the staycations. This summer I finally did what I've been meaning to do for so long. We've been in our Peugeot 2008 by The Netherlands I've been searching for the most beautiful hotels and holiday homes in my own country. Pure freedom on four wheels! In this new list, I've compiled my favorite places to stay in the Wadden Islands. Now that schools have started again and we have the Wadden Islands to ourselves, I thought it was perfect timing to share these tips with you. There's nothing better than enjoying a late summer on an island close to home. From Texel To Ameland, with the hotspots on this list, a mini road trip is sure to be a success. Have fun!

This is the coolest new hotel for a night away! Meet @viaantwerp, Antwerp's newest boutique hotel on the border of Zurenborg and Borgerhout (yep, voted the 2nd coolest neighborhood in the world by Time Out).
I recently stayed at this gem, and it truly has it all: a lively bar with a cozy atmosphere, walls adorned with creative art, beautiful, bright rooms, and it's within walking distance of great hotspots. And I haven't even mentioned @mea.antwerp! The delightful restaurant, helmed by a chef who previously worked at The Palomar in London. If you know, you know!

HOME ALONE 4 INCOMING 😅 My trip to NYC ends in a bad (Christmas) movie when the hotel gives my carry-on luggage with passport to an old lady who doesn't realize this and checks the luggage on a flight to the UK!
Now I'm stuck here in NY without a passport, and I missed my flight.
I've experienced a lot in all the years I've been traveling for Your Little Black Book, but this is a first 😅.
This chat video is purely therapeutic in nature 🤣🤣🤣. Because really: HOW?! 🫢
Note to self: it's better to carry your passport all day, instead of leaving it "safely" in the hotel, apparently... and from now on, attach suitcases with cables in the storage room. Even if you're staying in a luxurious and expensive hotel, everything is still done by humans.
Now I'm stuck in one of the world's coolest cities, but of course I just want to be home with Manuel, as planned. 😔

How cool is this? There are places in the Netherlands where you can cut down your own Christmas tree! You don't hear about it very often, even though it's quite common in America (where I'm currently!).
Good to know: some of these places in the Netherlands are only open for a few days a year and you have to reserve a time slot.

This time we went to @williams.farmhouse, one of my favorite lunch spots in Amsterdam Oud-Zuid. But is it also fun during the day with kids?
We ordered a 'plain' version of the Farmhouse burger 🍔: yes, really just meat + cheese 🤣… and together with the fries it was a mega success.
Happy child, happy us... and it was such a cozy, rainy afternoon. I mean, this interior makes me dream of the Cotswolds again!

The best places to stay on the Wadden Islands
Vlieland
The Vlieland Hotel: Ask Vlieland fans where to stay, and chances are they'll immediately mention The Vlieland Hotel. It's a cozy and modern family hotel run by two true islanders. The hotel's interior is charming and warm, with plenty of retro furniture and bright colors. A wonderful base for exploring Vlieland!

Leut Coffee Bar & Lodging: This summer, I often stayed at hotels like Leut Coffee Bar & Lodging. It offers a few guest rooms, so you can simply roll out of bed for breakfast in the morning or literally fall asleep after dinner. This hotel, with its modern rooms, is centrally located on the island in Dorpsstraat.

Badhotel Bruin: This cozy boutique hotel is a well-known landmark on the island of Vlie. It's also located on Dorpsstraat, with the ferry and several other charming spots within walking distance. Badhotel Bruin is known for its delicious dining. So, I recommend exploring the island during the day, settling in at a beach bar, strolling along the beach, and then dining at the hotel for a lavish dinner featuring local produce.

Hotel Texel: Okay, it's not Ibiza, but this nice wellness hotel It's located on an island. In the heart of the Texel countryside, to be precise. Let your Wadden Sea weekend be all about you, book a Woolness package, and experience what it's like to soak in a wool bath. A traditional Texel ritual where you lie in a manger filled with soft wool. A truly special experience! Afterwards, relax further in the scented sauna, sea steam bath, or high spa. The Yurt Texel: This is glamping on Texel! Not your average hotel, but it's incredibly fun. You'll find loads of cool yurts on Texel. A yurt? Yes, those round tents, fantastically furnished with covetable goodies and heated only by a fire made from hand-chopped wood. Perfect for a romantic staycation with your loved one, but also super fun to do with friends.

In the East: This is by far one of the most exciting hotel openings of summer 2020. A gastrofarm with eleven suites in an authentic Texel farmhouse on the eastern side of the island. The Kook Atelier restaurant serves Nordic cuisine using the finest produce from their own garden and the Wadden Sea. I can't wait to tell you more about it after we've stayed there ourselves in early September. But you can also take a look yourself on their website!

Ameland
Pension Bakema: This friendly guesthouse is within walking distance of Nes, the capital of Ameland. Perfect, because you can experience the island's peace and quiet, and the authentic Ameland feeling, as the locals describe it, right around your hotel. The rooms are modernly furnished and remind me of the warm Scandinavian style. What a wonderful way to wake up to the smell of fresh croissants in the morning!

Sea of Time: We instantly fell in love with the tiles at Zee van Tijd. It's a shame we didn't spot this gem sooner, otherwise I would have probably given our tiler an even tougher job during the renovation. This hotel has a wonderful bohemian style and is also very child-friendly. The rooms are beautifully bright and decorated with natural materials. The restaurant, on the other hand, is robust and robust!

Hotel Nobel: Spending the night in a restored church is undoubtedly a unique experience. The many windows make it seem as if all the rooms are connected, offering stunning views. You'll be amazed by the chic interior, a blend of designer, luxury, and modern design. It's the place to be if you're looking for something truly different!

LoftNes: Maybe you recognize this. A nice boutique hotel is wonderful, but especially if you're going away for longer than two nights, I'm a big fan of beautiful loft-style apartments. On Ameland, you don't need to look any further for that, because LoftNes is the place to stay. Wonderful in the summer. Extra cozy in the colder months and a perfect base for a road trip to Ameland!
