I love the holidays! Vienna is an incredibly romantic city for a weekend getaway in the Christmas spirit. There's a cozy Christmas market on almost every square. Twinkling lights and decorations everywhere. I love it! What I especially love about the Christmas markets is that they sell a lot of local food. From delicious meats (like Trockenfleisch) to cheeses, and of course, punch and mulled wine. Don't forget to bring warm clothes, because it can get pretty chilly! But hey, that's all part of the Christmas spirit, right? The Christmas markets in Vienna They're also perfect if you want to shop for authentic Viennese souvenirs, such as the genuine Viennese snow globe. It was invented in Vienna and is still handmade there.

My favorite way to explore the Christmas markets is to turn them into a true food and drink adventure. Enjoy sampling something and having a drink at every stall. Altwiener christkindlMarkt – Vienna
De Freyung market is one of the oldest Christmas markets in Vienna. This Christmas market is also known as the farmers' market. You'll find many local delicacies such as sausages, cheeses, and pies. Besides plenty of food, these markets also sell handmade items. Most of the items at the Viennese Christmas markets can be quite kitschy. Tastes differ. Date: until December 23rd. Am Hof Advent Market – Vienna
Vienna's most luxurious hotel, the Four Seasons, will soon open near this Christmas market. Christmas market at the courtyard Enjoy a punch with friends and a tasty snack at one of the stalls. Christkindlmarkt – Vienna
De Christmas market at the City Hall is the largest Christmas market in Vienna. Go there in the evening, because it looks fantastic with all the lights. At this Christmas market, you can also do lots of things with children inside the town hall. A pretty good idea... parents drop off the kids and go and drink mulled wine themselves ;-). At this Christmas market, they sell just about anything and everything. If it's not too cold, you can easily spend a few hours here, wandering from stall to stall and enjoying delicious treats like raclette and sausages. Date: November 14 to December 26, 2025. Christmas Market at Stephansplatz – Vienna
The Christmas market at the Stephansplatz is one of Vienna's newest Christmas markets. Overlooking the beautifully illuminated cathedral, you'll find delicious food items like balsamic vinegar and olive oils. Christmas at the MQ aka the Museum Quarter – Vienna
De MQ market It's a fun place to go in the evening and popular with young people who enjoy eating and drinking. Of course, everyone enjoys punch and mulled wine! There are metal hangars on the MQ square where you can also sit inside when it's cold. DJs spin records, and the light projections on the museums and the street are really cool! Spittelberg Christmas Market – Vienna
This Christmas market is a bit alternative and is located in the trendy 6th/7th district of Vienna. On the Spittelberg Christmas market You'll find lots of locals coming here to eat and drink. There are over 100 stalls selling handicrafts. The narrow streets are a real highlight of this market. Very cozy! This market is a great place for a pub crawl. Food and drinks are available everywhere at the Spittelberg Christmas market. Many stalls sell organic food. Yummy! Dates: November 14 to December 23, 2025. Christmas Market at Altes AKH – Vienna
In the park near the former Vienna hospital, you'll find a Christmas market that's not so touristy. But it does have beautiful lights and delicious food! Old Akh The Christmas market is located just outside Vienna's city center in the beautiful 9th district. It's a great place to meet locals. Dates: November 14 to December 23, 2025.
