Love Beer

Amsterdam

The best beer / food combinations you must try!

13 July 2015

From the best beer cocktails to foodie-proof dishes from Amsterdam

At Your Little Black Book we know the menu from most restaurant hotspots in Amsterdam by heart. We know exactly where you can drink the best craft beers and where there are beer cocktails on the menu that are perfect for a night at the bar with your girlfriends. Or just a normal draft beer from the tap that always goes well with a snack platter!

It surprises us that a lot of ladies in Amsterdam don’t dare to order beer with their food. We Love Beer! So we thought it was about time to share our favourite beer / food combinations for you to enjoy :-). Because let’s be honest: a hamburger or chicken off the rotisserie tastes best with a glass of beer, right!

Our favourite food & beer dishes in Amsterdam:

Biertuin

1 >> CHICKEN & BEER

Chicken off the spit is hot! And I’ll be honest, I also think it’s incredibly good. Especially if I’m with the girls I’d feel as if this is just a little bit healthier than having a hotdog or burger as a quick bite. I oftentimes have some chicken at De Biertuin in Amsterdam East. It’s really a dish that just tastes the best with a beer. The hotspots where you can have these trendy bar bites usually also have a long list of (specialty) beers on tap.
This is where you eat chicken in Amsterdam: De Biertuin, Rotisserie Amsterdam, Kip in het IJ & Café Lennep.

Smokin Barrels

2 >> SURF ‘N TURF & BEER

YUM! If there is anything that you could wake us up for, then it must be lobster. And what’s beter than to mix two guilty pleasures into a single dish: the surf & turf. A juicy hamburger combined with half a grilled lobster. So delicious! I love eating them at Smokin’ Barrels and then I’d order the Sorachi Ace from Brooklyn Brewery.

Smokin Barrels

This beer is in a sort of champagne bottle (complete with a cork) and comes to your table with a wine cooler bucket. Very girly!

cote-de-boeuf-bier

3 >> COTE DE BOEUF & BEER

We don’t say no to a good piece of meat! And what’s more delicious than a Cote de Boeuf to share with your tablemates. At least that’s what I like doing when I’m eating with the boyfriend. Luckily you see it on the menu more often in Amsterdam now. Delicious with salsa verde, baked potato and a ‘Pils’ beer from the draft.
This is where you eat Cote de Boeuf in Amsterdam: Panache, Smokin’ Barrels, Café de Paris and Cannibale Royale.

gebrouwen-door-vrouwen

4 >> seafood & BEER

A few weeks ago I had a chat with Tessel en Do from ‘Gebrouwen door Vrouwen (Brewed by Women)’. The first female brewers from Amsterdam. I thought it was really cool to see these two tough chicks who like beer just much as I do, are brewing their own beer. You can drink it at Mossel & Gin in Amsterdam. During the season you can enjoy great mussels there, but all year round they have yummy seafood on the menu. And seafood, like pulpo, and white beer go together very well we can tell you!

Love Beer

5 >> APERITIVO & BEER

You know how things go: you’re eating out but you actually want to have a special drink first to kickstart the evening. At Smokin’ Barrels they have amazing craft beer cocktails with beer als the main ingredient. My favourite? That’s no doubt the Mr. Wallace with rum, orange-cinnamon sorbet and Brooklyn Lager! A real must-try if you’re in the neighbourhood.
