15 X parks in Amsterdam where you are fortunately allowed to barbecue

June 26, 2024

Looking for a park where you're allowed to barbecue in Amsterdam? Fingers crossed for a wonderful summer in your own city, with plenty of opportunities to fire up the grill. It's also a great place to meet up with friends, each on their own picnic blanket around the barbecue. Make a tasty mix of vegetarian, meat, and fish and have everyone bring something. Unfortunately, barbecues are no longer allowed in all parks in Amsterdam, so we've updated this list for 2021 with the latest information from the Municipality of Amsterdam. This year, there are sixteen parks where barbecues are permitted in Amsterdam. Is your favorite spot among them? And don't forget: you must, of course, clean up ALL the trash after eating and throw the coals in the designated bins. Because barbecuing in public is only possible if we all follow the rules!

 | GOOD TO KNOW: In some parks, you are only allowed to barbecue in specifically designated areas. Check in advance via Gemeente Amsterdam which parts of the parks these are exactly.

Sloterpark

In Amsterdam-West, you'll find Sloterpark, where you can enjoy long summer evenings with your BBQ in certain spots. Another great thing about this park: it's located on the Sloterplas lake, so bring your swimwear!

The Amsterdam Forest

The Amsterdamse Bos is a beautiful, large park (forest). Bring your barbecue (be sure to sit 50 meters from the edge of the forest due to forest fires) and enjoy this slice of nature that Amsterdam has to offer. Don't have your own barbecue? There are also six public barbecues in the Amsterdamse Bos that you can use. Be sure to check beforehand which areas are and aren't allowed to light your barbecue.

Osdorp City Park

Do you live near Osdorp and fancy a fun barbecue with friends in a park? Then you should definitely visit Stadspark Osdorp. It might not be the first park that comes to mind, but that's precisely why it's a great way to explore a different part of the city.

Rembrandt Park

Rembrandtpark is wonderfully spacious, but be aware that barbecuing isn't permitted everywhere. Check the designated areas before lighting your barbecue.

Oosterpark

One of the loveliest parks in Amsterdam is Oosterpark. Sit by the water or relax on the grass. You can fire up your BBQ anywhere in Oosterpark. Enjoy your veggie skewers from the BBQ, the music, and your friends. If only summer could last forever, it's so nice...
