9 x bao burgers in Amsterdam to try right now

29 March 2017

you can get delicious bao burgers at these hotspots in amsterdam

He came, he saw and he conquered: the bao burger in Amsterdam! Not so long ago I hadn’t even heard of the this Asian snack and now it’s everywhere. Also known as the Asian version of the burger, but than just without a burger ;-) Just a delicious steamed bun that can be filled with almost everything, from peking duck to pork belly. Mmmm! It’s about time that we listed the best bao burgers in Amsterdam. Enjoy!

9 X BAO BURGERS in amsterdam to test with friends

Bar Bra: At Bar Bra the bao burgers aren’t a fixed dish on the menu and that’s exactly the principle of Bar Bra. Here they work with different chefs every week and also a different theme every day. Including Taco Tuesday and Mini Curry Friday. But the bao burgers and other street food come by very often, so definitely drop by at Bar Bra or watch their website!

Happyhappyjoyjoy: If you say bao burger, than we’ll say Happyhappyjoyjoy. Because obviously this toko should not be missing in this list. Happyhappyjoyjoy is known for their Asian street food and of course the bao burger is part of that. And there’s plenty of choice here. You can go for a steamed bun with pork belly, peking duck or crispy chicken.

Vijfnulvijf: Also Vijfnulvijf is your place to go for your dosis of bao. But not just that. Here they serve delicious sushi and other asian bites. And also the interior is a feast, because this Asian bar is filled with vintage furniture. Something we love!

Tales & Spirits: A cosy ambiance, cocktails, lots of different bites ánd shared dining. The hidden Tales & Spirits in Amsterdam City Center has it all. And thus the bao burger as well. Here the steamed bun is served with crispy pork belly, cucumber, hoi-sin and chili sauce. I’ll take two please!

Ron Gastrobar Oriental: From delicious dim sum to soft shell crab and from spicy Asian pancakes to peking duck served in a bao. For the most delicious Chinese food you’ll go to Ron Gastrobar Oriental. It’s one of the few Chinese restaurants in Amsterdam where the setting is as good as the food.

YourLBB's newest lists

Le Big Fish at the Foodhallen: At the place in Amsterdam where all the different kinds of snacks come together, the bao burger cannot be missed. So Le Big Fish is happy to bear this responsibility at the Foodhallen. You can choose between several bao’s, all with different kinds of fish!

New King: For years New King has been a favourite at the Zeedijk. Because here you go for nasi and bami, which you can create entirely by your own choice. The same goes for bami soup. And of course you’ll get a delicious steamed bun with peking duck with that. Mmmm!

Pho 91: You’ll find Pho91 on the Albert Cuypmarket, it really is the place in Amsterdam to eat Vietnemese food. The bao buns are also a real recommendation, especially the one with tofu or the one with crispy pork.

Bowls & Buns at Market 33: At Bowls & Buns you can get the best poké bowls and bao burgers. Try the one with the pulled pork, it’s so good! A poké bowl and a bao bun together only cost €12,-, perfect for a midweek night out.
