Amsterdam Weekend Guide for February 22, 23 & 24

21 February 2019

As you may have seen on Instagram last week, I am working hard on the design of the new website. The current Your Little Black Book version is already three years old. And in the digital world you are pretty much considered elderly then. Time for a new look, with a new search function, more overview (at least … I hope so!) and better instructions on where to find something easily. Recently I find myself wanting more substance. Not necessarily MORE tips, but favourite tips, and only the really good ones or new addresses with a cool story. That’s why I spent some time last week interviewing new entrepreneurs, so Your Little Black Book gives you not only the tip, but also the story.

the english content is back!

I also have good news for the English followers. In addition to the Amsterdam Weekend Guide, the new articles wil also be published in an English version with the most important highlights in bullet points. It is not feasible for me to duplicate all content, so I started thinking about a quick and easy way to give you the tips. The reason that I stopped translating all the articles, was the amount of hate emails that we received about some ‘bad English’ in our writing. Funnily enough, they came mainly from Dutch people who are bilingual and not from expats for whom the content is intended. Anyway, let me say first that I see this as a service. A gesture, because online there are few tips in English that are not aimed at tourists. I am Dutch. No native speaker. So do not expect native English texts here. We do our best to write as clear and pleasant as possible! That being said, you can now find the most recent English articles here:

But let’s talk about the weekend! Did you already make plans for brunch? Or are you feeling like a dinner in the middle of the night? In the new Amsterdam Weekend Guide for February 22, 23 & 24 I have listed 10 tips for fun stuff to do in Amsterdam. Happy weekend!

❶ OOH YES! One of my favourite webshops opened up a pop-up store in Amsterdam.  The Femme & Fierce pop-up is open until February 24 at the Huidenstraat 13 in the always cosy ‘Negen Straatjes’. In this pop-up they are selling the new Spring/Summer 2019 collection. What to expect?  A lot of colour and statement prints. In the Femme & Fierce pop-up you can find brands like: Stine Goya, Custommade, Storm & Marie, Gestuz, Baum und Pferdgarten, Coster Copenhagen and Co’couture. PS: BYOB (bring your own bag) and payments only by card! These are the opening hours of the Femme & Fierce pop-up: Thursday 11am – 7pm, Friday 10am – 6pm, Saturday 10.30am – 6pm and Sunday 10.30am – 5pm. More info in the Facebook event >>

❷ My prediction is that the hotpot will be the new food trend that will take over Amsterdam. During my trip to Bangkok recently, I sas this food everywhere. This Japanese version of fondue is more popular than ever, so I think it’s super cool that our friends over at the Chin Chin Club are organising their Hotpot Party every Sunday. YES, dip it low! Dip their thinly sliced black angus beef or vegetables or even home made dumplings in the hot water pot and stick around for some dancing after they clean out the tables and make some room for the dance floor! It is good to make reservations in advance. Check out the Facebook event for more info >>

❸ Whenever I pass a restaurant where you can dine after midnight on the Van Baerle , I remind myself that my lover and I still have to do that one night. Just because it’s possible! This weekend, during the Night Before the Night (Nacht Voor De Nacht) on February 23 and 24, you can visit a whole lot of fine restaurants for a nightly dinner. I have gathered a couple of them here, where you can (now) reserve:

Ron Gastrobarclick here to make reservation

❹ Fan of the Oscars? Then this is your chance to attend them! Not in America, but just in our own Amsterdam. At De Balie, on February 24, you will walk along the red carpet for a full evening program with a glass of champagne in your gala-pyjama. You will attend the pre-première of Vice (with 6 nominations) and then watch the Oscars. Do you have a Cineville pass? Then the entrance is free. Click here for more info and tickets >>

❺ Fancy an indoor festival? Then go to the ‘Grote Fiasco at Casco’ on February  22 and 23. A creative festival for young and old (kids welcome until the start of the evening). It promises to be a pleasant (un) organised chaos that you can enjoy during this winter weekend. Think: music, food, drinks and more. It is difficult to describe what kind of event this is, so definitely check out the Facebook event!

❻ For a great brunch experience this Sunday, we have found more than enough options! Let’s look at a few of my favourite picks:

⋙ This Sunday it is time for yet another edition of the Mad Hatter’s bottomless sparkling wine brunch. Read all about it here >>

❼ We are always in the mood for a cool weekend market! This weekend, the Maker Market returns on Saturday and Sunday in De Hallen in West. Curious to see what stands will be here for this edition? Check out the Facebook event for the line-up >>

❽ I must admit that I haven’t been here before, but Fortune Flea immediately drew me in. A vintage furniture store that only opens it’s doors twice a month on the Zeeburgerpad. Here they sell carefully selected items from France and Belgium. I will definitely be checking this store out this weekend! More info about the store in the Facebook event >>
