Amsterdam Weekend Guide for February 1, 2 & 330 January 2019
THESE ARE THE BEST TIPS FOR FUN ACTIVITIES AMSTERDAM THIS WEEKEND
Now that I’m finally spending more of my weekends in Amsterdam (one of my New Year’s resolutions!), I’m literally racing through town to visit and eat at all the new restaurants that opened their doors recently. With all the interviews and reviewing I am doing, I think I must be experiencing the opposite of a Winter-depression. These encounters with new entrepreneurs and all the meetings with inspiring people, is exactly the reason why I started Your Little Black Book almost 7 years ago! I can’t even tell you how much energy it gives me to hear all their amazing stories!
It was about 2 years ago that I had a big crush… A crush on the guys that started restaurant Wijmpje Beukers to be more precise. Without any expectations I walked into this place and I can tell you: I left them completely enamoured. Wijmpje Beukers turned into one of my stapels in Amsterdam and that’s why it’s extra special that I got to construct the #YOURLBBLOVESWIJMPJE menu, in celebration of their 2 year anniversary! Later in this guide I will tell you about this! And of course I have 9 more tips for you in this Amsterdam Weekend Guide for Februari 1, 2 & 3, that will give you enough reasons to NOT hang on that couch all weekend watching On-Demand shows. HAPPY WEEKEND!

10 BEST TIPS FOR THIS WEEKEND IN AMSTERDAM
❶ YES, you read that right. got to construct the #YOURLBBLOVESWIJMPJE menu, in celebration of their 2 year anniversary this week. Until February 2nd you can order my favourite dishes from 2 years of Wijmpje. In this blog I tell you all about this special menu and you get a sneak peek of what you can expect here And the best thing? When you go and enjoy this menu at Wijmpje Beukers and share a picture or story on Instagram with the hashtag #YOURLBBLOVESWIJMPJE (don’t forget to tag @YOURLBB en @WIJMPJEBEUKERS), then you will receive a free glass of prosecco on the house! Good to know: Wijmpje doesn’t take reservations! Just walk in from Tuesday till Saturday, they open at 5pm!
❷ With all the oyster events this weekend in Amsterdam, I wonder how many of these ocean-treats we ‘drink up’ all together every week! If you ask me, the BAUT OesterFest is the place to be this weekend. Between 4 and 11 pm, with a live DJ and kind prices of only 1,- per oyster (make sure to try all the different flavours!) Read all about this event here >>
❸ We are busy testing and interviewing all the new restaurants in Amsterdam that recently opened their doors. I am going to most of them myself, and believe me, they are great:
⋙ Ron’s Gastrobar Indonesia opened the doors where Nacarat used to be.
⋙ Restaurant Watergang is one of the promising newcomers! A very intimate table d’hote restaurant with a European menu.
⋙ MILK is the new restaurant next to the Melkweg Expo. Open every day from 11 am.
⋙ Good news for all vegans! The Vegan Junkfood Bar opened their Reguliersdwarsstraat location.
⋙ Just opened: the Noordermarkt got even more fun with the opening of restaurant Domenica .
❹ HIP HIP HOORAYYYYY for vrijmibo FRITS! They are celebrating their 4th birthday this weekend and believe me, they are going ALL OUT! Between 7pm and 2am, you can come party at de Westerunie. . Score your ticket for FRITS here!
❺ There’s a few events outside the city that I think are worth leaving Amsterdam for during the weekend. A good example is a good flea market, where you are guaranteed to find the best stuff! There’s less ‘competition’ here from other shoppers, and it’s on these markets where I recently scored a cool bamboo magazine rack and a very cool leopard made of Italian ceramics. This is where you can get your treasure hunting game ON this weekend:
⋙ De Zaanse Vlooienmarkt – feb 2
⋙ De Katwijkse Vlooienmarkt – feb 3
⋙ De Amstelveense Vlooienmarkt – feb 3
❻ Saturday is the last day you can go to the exhibition about the life of Buddha in de Nieuwe Kerk. And for this special last night, they are hosting ‘Boeddha by night’ , where they will extend the opening hours on Friday and Saturday until 8pm. More info in the Facebook event >>
❼ For a Sunday filled with music, the Volkshotel is the place the be. Between 1pm and 7pm you can score the best vinyl records during their The Good Music Vinyl Party. And when you’re there, why not relax in the hot tub on the 8th floor and enjoy some live music by singer-songwriter Rose Marin during the Badplaats Winter Sessions. Extra tip for freelancers: now that they closed my favourite spot to work on my laptop (De Stadskantine), the work spot (De Werkplaats) in the Volkshotel is absolutely my go-to place in the Amstel area.
❽ Are you super into markets like me? This weekend it’s time for the Sunday Market again at the Westergasterrein! And this time the theme is: Valentine’s Market. You can shop jewellery here, have someone write you a beautiful poem, or just enjoy drinks with oysters and bubbels with your friends. The perfect lazy Sunday vibes between 12pm and 6pm! Check out the Facebook event >>.
❾ Feel like clubbing this weekend, but don’t feel like being out until late? We have the perfect solution: go to a party super early in the evening, or maybe even better, go early morning! This is a trend that started in Berlin and it seems to be catching on in Amsterdam!
⋙ You may have heard about this, but this weekend De Microclub is back in Amsterdam. Come dancing at BAUT this Friday between 8pm and 00.30am. Don’t know what micro clubbing really means? Read all about what to expect >>
⋙ De School will be open during the whole weekend, and that means partying from Friday night until Monday morning 6am. Good to know: the party is 21+, and you can buy your Sunday tickets at the door after 8am for only € 16,-. Check out the Facebook event >>
❿ Sunday is my favourite day for brunch or lunch at a cool spot in the city! My tip for this weekend? Go to ZUID, where they are kicking off their We Are Family & Friends event. Perfect for when you have kids or friends with kids, because when you are catching up with friends and enjoying all the delicious food, the kids can have fun with toys, get creative with drawing and have some healthy snacks in the special kid-zone in the restaurant. Want to check out the menu in advance? You can do that here>>
