Amsterdam weekend guide for August 4, 5 & 6

YES WEEKEND! Your favourite days; Friday, Saturday and Sunday are here! And in case you have no idea what to do this weekend, then you’re lucky. We gathered our favourite things to do in Amsterdam for the coming days. You can for example check out Pride Amsterdam, go to the Sunday Market or to one of the many food festivals.   • During Pride Amsterdam THE DUCHESS dedicates her extravagant Afternoon Tea to the whole gay community. Until August 6, you can surprise yourself with rainbow macarons, glittery glazed cupcakes and mini fresh fruit salads, of course accompanied by champagne and an exclusive tea selection. Treat yourself!
  • Braai is open for three months and that needs a party this Saturday. Expect rainbow ribs and fries for only € 7,50, music from DJ Bob and the best drinks.

  • 3 festivals in Amsterdam to go to this weekend
    • Do you like Italian food? Then visit the new Pizza & Pasta Festival at Dok Amsterdam this Sunday. Eat penne, farfalle, fettuccine, ravioli, rigatoni and more!
    • From August 4 till 6, NDSM-Wharf will be transformed into a new food festival where you can eat the best snacks, enjoy drinks, theater performances and more throughout the weekend. Every food truck also contributes to the festival. This can be a crazy band, Dutch games, (cooking) workshops or just a nice exhibition.
    • Visit on August 6 the BBQ Festival at Dok Amsterdam. On this nice city beach you will find several food stands where they bbq all day long to make you spareribs, steaks, chicken spies and more.
  • Every Friday and Saturday pop up chefs are preparing their signature dishes in the kitchen of Bar Sue. This Friday and Saturday you can go to Soto & Sate. Get a 3-course dinner for 25 euro and get the feeling of being in Indonesia for just one night.

  • Taqueria Tacobar in North is open for a few weeks now and that deserves a party. On Saturday and Sunday you can go to the first ‘Boozy Taco Brunch‘. For € 15 you get a Bloody Mary with 2 tacos of your choice. Perfect to relax during a busy weekend or as a cure for your hangover.
  • Attention all Bloody Mary lovers! This summer you can go to a new boozy brunch pop-up in Amsterdam (but also in Rotterdam and The Hague)! We’ve tested it for you so check the date quickly and read all about it >>
  • Till September 2 you can go to island Pampus with the boat for a culinary surprise evening at pop-up restaurant Zomerlicht. No boat? No worries. You will be picked up with the motor clipper Sailboa at IJburg and you’ll arrive 30 minutes later at Pampus.
  • Meneer Nieges celebrates on Saturday August 5 the freedom of speech and that we can kiss whoever we want to kiss. Expect pink balloons and whistles, BBQ and confetti. A way to big DJ booth, but above all a lot of fun. Ps: On Sunday evening you can watch the finals of the Dutch soccer woman!

  • The city is turning pink, it’s raining glitters and we celebrate love. It’s time for Pride Amsterdam. What is there to do in our lovely city? Check our list with things you can’t miss during Pride Amsterdam. Enjoy!
  • Come to the Dragqueen Olympics on Friday August 4. There will be throwing handbags, stiletto sprinting and dragqueens will challenge each other during the funniest Olympics of the year.
  • And something that you absolutely can’t miss during Pride Amsterdam is the Canal Parade. About eighty boats will sail through the canals of Amsterdam to celebrate that you may be who you are!
  • On August 4 and 5 you can go to the Drijf In Bioscoop Pampus and yep, you read it well. You can watch a movie from the water! Anchor your boat, make sure you sit (or lie ;-)) well and you have a warm blanket over your knees to enjoy this special movie night.
  • Get your friends together for the Sunday Market at the Westergasfabriek this Sunday. Enjoy an afternoon full of shopping, nice workshops, theater, live music and good food & drinks!
  • Come to Rosario on Sunday August 6. A tropical festival in ‘t Blauwe Theehuis in Vondelpark where you can expect coloured lights, cocktails and a lot or flirty people.
  • Till August 6 you can visit the biggest Surinamese and Multicultural festival of the Netherlands, the Kwaku Summer Festival. Expect delicious Surinam and Caribbean food ;-)
  • TIP: Lowlands has an amazing line up. Artists like Alt-J, Moderat and Solange(!) will be on stage this year and we will be there.

  • End the weekend in style and come to the beautiful courtyard of Bridges Restaurant for a relaxed afternoon. Enjoy jazz music by Joyce Stevens and Mine Lord and beautiful wines.

  • On Friday and Saturday the Spuistraat will be transformed in the most colourful party of the year; Prik Pride Street Party. Here you will find the best DJs, food trucks, a lot of happy people and bars to score drinks.

Weekend guide museum en culture

  • Until September 23 you can go to Legends Passed at Eduard Planting Galerie, they give a tribute to legends that are no longer with us. Think of Prince, David Bowie, Muhammad Ali, Chuck Berry, Johan Cruijff and Roger Moore. Let yourself be enchanted by seeing nostalgic portraits of the legends that we still miss each day.
  • Come to Streets of the World of Jeroen Swolfs until September 30. Streets of the World is a project by Dutch photojournalist Jeroen Swolfs. Over the last 7 years, the photographer traveled around the world to take pictures of street life in every capital of the world. 195 photos and 195 countries later, he wants to give the world a new, positive perspective of the world now that the negative images are spreading daily through the news. Make a trip through different countries and cities based on his special photos.
  • Until August 27 you can go to Het Scheepvaartmuseum Amsterdam for Ode aan een Amsterdammer. Amsterdam is a city where everything is possible and allowed and this exhibition understood that well. You can wacht about 70 portraits of inhabitants of Amsterdam that show how much diversity and character the city of Amsterdam has.
  • Visit the Moco Museum, our favourite museum in Amsterdam! On the ground floor you can go to Banksy: Laugh Now. About 50 works can be seen here from the street art legend, and you have to have seen that at least once. You can also go to the beautiful exhibition of Salvador Dalí. 28 years ago, one of the most famous artists died and his most iconic works, for example the melting clocks and tables with ‘high heels’ are ready to be seen at the Moco Museum till August 30.

  • Go to the Tropenmuseum (until July 2018) for the exhibition Body Art where you learn everything about body decorations. From make-up and tattoos, to skin implants and surgical changes. Sounds cool right?
  • At Tassenmuseum Hendrikje you can go to the exhibition; It’s a Men’s World. Since 15 years we can’t think of a world without the men’s bag. For every type of man, there’s a bag that fits him. But this is not new. Till August 27 you can go to the exhibition about the man, his world and his bag.

  • Do you already have a ticket for THE summer festival of 2017? The Ark Festival cruise travels from Barcelona to Marseille and Ibiza, and back to Barcelona from August 31 till September 4. Check our blog with 18 reasons why you want to be there! 
  • Come to FPQ XL on Saturday August 5. Three spaces will be filled with tropical and mostly hot tunes. There will be dancing till the sun comes up, with glitters, floatable animals and garlands.
  • On Saturday you can visit HIPHOP ART FEST, a festival focussed on hiphop, but also art, dance, food and games. Get your tickets now!

  • Or take a look at Funhouse XXL this Saturday, thé festival to go all out without anyone looking at you. Be who you are!

  • End the week with Sloppy Sundae at Disco Dolly on Sunday, the perfect spot to forget about your hangover and actions from the weekend.
  • Celebrate love on Saturday at Our Love. The big party at the Amstelveld during and after the Canal Pride with many familiar and new names from the mainstream Gay- and Undergroundscene.
  • On Saturday you can also go to Gaypride is Burning, a fun underground party with old house, techno and lots of crazy people and acts in the Marktkantine.
