Amsterdam Weekend Guide for February 8, 9 & 10

7 February 2019

Last week a lot of people celebrated the Chinese New Year and even since, I can’t really stop thinking about dim-sum! My feed was filled with people eating great food, so my cravings are next level. I am definitely going for a good dim-sum fix this weekend! One of my other missions is to continue de-cluttering my house (and life!). Getting rid of items that I haven’t touched or thought about in over a year. Best feeling ever. Looking at some of the events that are happening this weekend, I feel like this approach might be a trend! I’m seeing closet-sales and clothing swop events everywhere. And of course we are continuing our reviews of all the new restaurants like Neni, Carstens en Hola Poke! What are your plans for this weekend? In this brand new Amsterdam Weekend Guide for February 8, 9 & 10 I listed 10 tips for you guys, full of fun stuff to do in our favourite city! Happy weekend!

❶  Feel like kicking off the weekend with drinks with your friends? On Friday 8 there are several VRIJMIBO’s in Amsterdam! (Vrijmibo stands for: Friday – Afternoon – Drinks, in Dutch)

⋙ At Juniper & Kin they are serving after work drinks from 5pm. Come and relax and enjoy the amazing views over Amsterdam! Check out the Facebook event >>
⋙ Want to drink G&T’s the whole night for € 5,- ? Go to Terpentijn on the Rokin, from 5pm. Read more about this here  >>
⋙ Work hard, play harder! Go to Bar Dak to enjoy Fridak. They will be serving their Fridak signature cocktail for € 7,-! More info in the Facebook event >>
Vondel Disco returns this Friday at the Amstel Hotel. The event completely sold out, but you might be able to find some tickets at Ticket Swap or on the Facebook wall of the event! Check for tickets  >>

Ron Gastrobar Oriental is definitely one of my favourite spots for good Asian food and cocktails. This weekend you want to skip the dinner time reservation, but join for their Sunday lunch, to celebrate the Chinese New Year with a delicious 5-course lunch for € 49,-! Expect dim-sum, Peking duck bao’s and so much more, plus a DJ plaatjes to play you some tunes. Making a reservation is a must! Read more about this Sunday lunch here >>. Want something less fancy? Stop by at my beloved Oriental City for a dim sum brunch. Nothing fancy, but SO good!

❸ I lost my phone during skiing the other day… so I am looking for a new phone AND a new phone case. Does your phone need a new phone case? Go check out the  Gocase pop-up store at the Berenstraat 24 in the Negen Straatjes until February 17. Gocase makes smartphone cases sexy and fun again, because now you can go and pick out your case and accessories, like USB chargers, and have them personalise them with your own name. And did I already tell you that they have a whole series that is all Wonderlust themed? Love it.  Check out the Facebook event with the pop-up >>

❹ Are you a fan of steak tartare just like me? Then definitely go to Razmataz this Sunday for a new edition of RAUW! Steak tartare served with toasted brioche bread, fries from Friethoes and Spätburgunder. You are welcome from 4pm and to secure your spot, it is best to make a reservation! Read more about this in the Facebook event >>

❺ Feel like staying out late this weekend? Then go here for a little dance on the Saturday:

Strafwerk in de Marktkantine >>
Derrick May draait in Shelter >>
Happy Feelings Winter Festival bij Thuishaven (vanaf 13.00 uur!) >>

❻ Want to change something in our house? Or maybe you just bought a house or are in the middle of a move? Go and check out the mega sale hosted by interior brand FEST at the Zuiveringshal on the Westergasterrein. This Friday it will even be open until 9pm! Score items here with discounts up to 70% on couches, chairs, tabels and interior accessories.  For more info check out the Facebook event >>

❼ In the mood for shopping, but don’t want to buy stuff that is brand new? Go for some vintage or pre-loved shopping this weekend. These are the two events you want to check out:

The Branded Kilo Sale. YES, you read that right. Designer clothing, sold per kilo this Saturday and Sunday. Read more about this here >>
De KLOFFIE markt is back in De Hallen in West from 12pm this Saturday. Loads of cute boots will be selling vintage treasures and unique accessories. Check out the Facebook event here >>

❽ One of my favourite hotel lobbies is still the lobby at The Hoxton. You can often find me here writing like a maniac on my laptop. Except on Sunday, because then it’s time to chill and enjoy their Jazzy Sunday’s from 3.30pm, with live jazz music in the lobby. Stop by for a drink if you’re in the neighbourhood! More about Jazzy Sunday’s >>

❾ I’m still very sad that Girassol is no longer open… It was my favourite restaurant on the Amstel river to enjoy some great food in the sunshine. This Sunday though, Girassol is opening their doors one more time for their mega Garage Sale where they are selling all of their interior (and more). So do you need anything for your kitchen or dining room? Come and score some great deals! Read all about this garage sale here >>

❿ Want to close the weekend off in style? Go to Walter’s – The Walter Woodbury Bar this Sunday afternoon, where they are serving oysters for € 1,- and Bloody Mary’s for € 5,- . Between 4pm and 5 pm, so be on time! Read more about this on Facebook  >>
