Amber ** Hong Kong: the two michelin stars restaurant !

5 September 2015

a very special foodie lunch at Amber ** in Honk Kong

Hong Kong is a food heaven. And when I’m in a new city I always like to go out for one real fancy lunch or dinner. I follow Richard Ekkebus in Twitter for years already and one of my followers recommended his restaurant Amber ** for my trip to Hong Kong. Thanks again for that! I went to Amber ** in Hong Kong for lunch. And I have to say I loved it!

But I never let travelling solo ruin my chance for superb food.

Too bad Anna who was with me on the press trip to Hong Kong was already back in Amsterdam. It would have been great fun to go together. But I never let travelling solo ruin my chance for superb food. So YES, I went to a two Michelin star restaurant all by myself. What can I say? Of course I love to go there with the boyfriend but I travel too much to dine at burger bars all the time.

Years later I can truly say I enjoy eating out alone. Different from eating out with friends, but it’s nice.

Of course the first time you go to a fancy place all by yourself is a bit uncomfy at first. Don’t forget to bring a magazine or iPad ;). But really, you adapt and get used to it. And there are always other people there that travel solo for their business. Years later I can truly say I enjoy eating out alone. Different from eating out with friends, but it’s nice.  Especially in the upscale places where everyone is very discrete and friendly. I just wanted to introduce you a bit to this story, because I can imagine that some of you would never dine out alone! Let alone dine solo in a two star restaurant in Hong Kong.

But back to Amber in Hong Kong now. This restaurant is located in the Mandarin hotel Hong Kong. The people there are lovely and will do their utmost to make your dining experience the best you ever had. I always love the story of the people working your table. Highly trained people that often studied in Europe or the USA.

Dining at the Amber was the perfect Sunday afternoon for me. The lunch menu is 6 courses with wine pairings. I have to admit that the Chef treated meto a few courses extra. All so unique and delicious! Hope the photos inspire you to go and try it yourself if you’re in Hong Kong and you’re craving for something else than Dim Sim ;-). Chef Maxime and Chef Ekkebus do a great job at Amber!
