Afternoon Tea in the Amstel Hotel: it looks this great

5 May 2016

I always wanted to try this: the afternoon tea of the Amstel Hotel

So many people talked about this for years and I never had the chance to try this myself. Since I’ve been living in Amsterdam, I always wanted to do the High Tea at the Amstel Hotel. Many people were very enthousiast so I thought it was about time to give it a go myself. With a wonderful view over the Amstel, we enjoyed the one delicious course after the other for almost three hours. The afternoon tea of the Amstel Hotel is immaculate and very English. The dinner set made me think I was having tea at my grandmother’s. :-)

Of course we started the afternoon tea with a festive glass of champagne! The first course was a small amuse with a mouse of fish and caviar on a prawn cracker.

After that, the sandwiches were served. These come on round plates and are spread with salmon, cheese and turkey. Delicious!

The hot dish was a croquette with lobster and a slider (mini hamburger) with chicken. Followed by scones which are too delicious! Of course with clotted cream and homemade marmalade. They serve different tea with every dish and it’s remarkable how much influence they have on the taste of the dish.

The final course is an etagere full of tidbits. Be sure you have some place left because everything is equally delicious. My favorite was the merengue with lemon curd! But because we were fully stuffed, we asked a doggy bag and took the other mini cakes at home. I can tell you, it was really nice to wake up the next morning, I enjoyed my coffee to the fullest! ;-)
