New York City diary part 1: a walk from Greenwich Village to SOHO and Nolita

What's more fun than waking up in the Big Apple?! When my brother told me he I was immediately excited when his job at a large FMCG company allowed me to move to New York. Of course, I would miss doing fun things together in Amsterdam, but for as long as I can remember, I've always dreamed of having family in New York!

I booked a ticket to New York as quickly as I could. Although this is my fifth time in New York, it's my first time in the summer. And I LOVE it!! We have so much to explore this week. Bianca, my sister-in-law, whom you all know well as the New York blogger for Your Little Black Book, has already made a long list of hotspots we're going to :-).

On our first day as a blogging duo (or should I say trio, because my brother is there too!) we walk all the way from Greenwich Village to the Lower East Side.

Coffee in Greenwich Village

We're taking the Path to Christopher Street in Greenwich Village. A perfect starting point for a day of hotspot-hopping! Our first stop is the new Marc jacobs beauty store on Bleecker Street. It's like a candy store full of makeup. I love the packaging, very simple and stylish. On Bleecker Street you'll also find Bookmarc with trendy stationery and the Marc by Marc Jacobs Store with gadgets, fashion and bags (should I treat myself to a new bag?!).

Hipsters have started the trend in New York to go everywhere by bike. And let me tell you… bikes are the new taxis in New York! Free bikes have finally made their breakthrough here too. Citi bike You can cycle from hotspot to hotspot. The first 30 minutes are free!

One of my all time favorite places for coffee after a visit to the Marc Jacobs stores is Cafe Angelique at 66 Bleecker St. Now that it's summer, they have delicious homemade lemonades! But since I haven't had any coffee yet, I'm going for my usual go-to... a skinny iced latte. Cheers!

Non nom nom! I love my vintage pink/red nail polish from Chanel :-) (Paparazzi, no. 579)

If you ever have the chance to go to New York in the summer, you absolutely must! B. and I are enjoying our coffee in the sun on the bench in front of Cafe Angelique.

Today I'm wearing (left) a maxi dress from Jutka and Riska, sandals from H&M, watch from Michael Kors, earrings from Chanel, sunglasses and bag from Marc by Marc Jacobs.
B. is wearing the iconic Wayfarer by Ray-Ban (this version is so cool… you can fold it!), a mint green top from Topshop, boyfriend jeans from H&M, and Vans. The black leather backpack is my brother's, and it's from Coach.

Shopping in SOHO

As you know by now I am a fan of AesopAnd now I've got my brother and B. hooked too! There are so many Aesop stores in New York, this is the one at 341 Bleecker St.

Don't let the name of this cool market in SOHO fool you. It's anything but pop-up! But that doesn't make it any less fun. It's the perfect place to shop for indie jewelry. You'll find The Market NYC at 159 Bleecker st.

Don't miss the vintage jewelry shop on the right in the photo. If you love vintage and unique items, you're sure to find something you like here!

I'm a lucky girl!! My brother gave me this cute rose gold ring with an anchor as a gift at The Market NYC :-). B. got a super cute rose gold necklace with a handwritten "love" pendant.

Love my brother! Got this cute rose gold plated anchor ring as a gift :-) #happy #style #yourlbb #shopping #fashion #NYC #NY #SOHO #cityguide #travel

Food loving in NOLITA

From Bleecker st. we go to Elisabeth st. for a little snack at Fonda Nolita which B. wrote about a few weeks ago (check the blog hereIf you love Mexican food, this is an absolute must!

IMG_1119

How cool is this bar in a vintage VW van? Fonda Nolita is a great hotspot for brunch or lunch. Perfect for kicking off an afternoon of shopping on trendy St. Elisabeth Street.

IMG_1120

New York can be so delightfully raw! Not everything has been renovated and refurbished yet. And that's what I love about this city: the atmosphere, the creativity, and the feeling that anything is still possible!
IMG_1121

We wanted to go to Tthe Muset Room Going for brunch. This hotspot has only been open for a few weeks and is supposed to serve brunch. Would... because when we arrive, the shutters are closed! So we walk a bit further down Elisabeth Street and go to Public.

IMG_1123

Brunch in New York City is the best in the world! I order a raspberry and lime lemonade (a bright pink drink!) and green tea smoked salmon with spinach and a poached egg. Yummy!

IMG_1124

If you are in NOLITA be sure to stop by Erica WeinerThis indie jewelry shop is one of my favorites in NY to find unique pieces. They sell everything from real gold to gold-plated and metal. Right now, they're selling some really cute vintage name bracelets For only $6. Unfortunately, the names Anne and Bianca weren't very popular in the '70s ;-). If there's an Arlene or Lois among the readers and you'd like a bracelet, let me know! LOL.

We walk all the way down Elisabeth Street into Chinatown and turn left on Hester Street. Our next stop today is the Lower East Side! Read all about our tour of the LES in part 2 of my New York City diary.
