Meet @viaantwerp , the newest boutique hotel in Antwerp on the border of Zurenborg and Borgerhout (yep, voted 2nd coolest neighborhood in the world by Time Out). I recently stayed at this gem and this hotel really has it all: a lively bar with a cozy atmosphere, walls full of creative art, beautiful bright rooms and it's within walking distance of great hotspots. And I haven't even mentioned @mea.antwerp! The delicious restaurant with a chef behind the pans who previously cooked at The Palomar in London. If you know, you know! 58 Berlin tips & tricks for an ultimate city trip

Airports in Berlin

Berlin has two airports you can fly into: Tegel and Schönefeld. Neither is particularly impressive, but Tegel's location is truly perfect. It's located in East Berlin, so you can reach your hotel in the city's most charming neighborhoods in no time.

Berlin's nicest neighborhoods

If you like the style of Your Little Black Book, you'll love exploring the Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, Neukölln, Prenzlauerberg, North Mitte, and Wedding neighborhoods during your city break, just like me. Almost all of these neighborhoods belonged to the former East Germany and are now the city's hippest or up-and-coming districts. You'll find a mix of cultures in most neighborhoods, and hidden in the side streets, you'll find surprising hotspots.

Hotspots in Berlin

Besides the many neighborhood pubs, Berlin is home to a wealth of great hotspots. The city is sprawling, so you'll need to do a bit of research. Most of the great places are located in places you might otherwise not find, either because they look like ordinary side streets at first glance, or because they're in places that are a bit off the beaten track. Street Art in Berlin

As a street art fanatic, I search for the best street art in every city I visit. And I don't mean the ugly tags you find on almost every building in some Berlin neighborhoods. No, I especially like the enormous murals that dot the city and the smaller artworks found in many doorways. Especially in the Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, and Neukölln neighborhoods, you'll find a wealth of murals, such as the famous "Kosmonaut" and artwork by ROA. Curious where else you can spot street art in Berlin? read it here >>

|Tip: Book via Get Your Guide a 3-hour street art tour with a local. Or go for a more off-the-grid tour >>

Best hotels in Berlin

Of course, your choice of hotel depends entirely on your budget, but most hotels in Berlin are a bit dated. If you're looking for a budget hotel, you can consider the chain Motel One Check out who has hotels in various locations in Berlin. Another nice and not too expensive hotel is Nhow HotelIf you go with a group of friends then I think it is Generator Hostel Highly recommended. You can book a room for multiple people, but they also have regular rooms for two. My favorite boutique hotels in Berlin are: 25 Hours Hotel BikiniMichelberger Hotel.

Markets in Berlin

If you're like me and love markets, Berlin is the place to be. One of my favorites used to be Neue Heimat. Unfortunately, it's closed now, but there are plenty of other great markets in Berlin. Go to Markthalle Neun for delicious food! It's an indoor food market, and they also have Street Food Thursdays and a breakfast market on weekends. Berlin is a real weekend hotspot when it comes to flea markets. Some of my favorites are: the Flea Market at Mauerpark (where karaoke is now perhaps a bigger draw than the market itself), the Flea Market at Boxhagener Platz, the Neukölln flea market along the canal (very hipster-friendly too), and the S036 Night Flea Market, held monthly at club S036.

Soak up culture in Berlin

Berlin has no shortage of museums. I've now visited most of them, but that says more about my frequent visits than about spending my entire weekend in a museum. The city also boasts many historical sites that are a must-see if you're visiting Berlin for the first time. Book your tickets online to avoid waiting in line. Below is a shortlist of all the museums you must visit!

Museums: GDR museum, Jewish Museum Berlin, Berlin Wall Museum en Berlinische Galerie.

Culture & highlights: Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Berlin Wall and the TV tower.

Shopping in Berlin

Although shopping is rarely my main reason for visiting Berlin, it's a great place to do so. North Mitte, in particular, is home to all the great high street stores like COS and &Other Stories. For more unique concept stores and smaller boutiques, head to Kreuzberg and the area bordering Kreuzberg, Neuköln, and Prenzlauerberg.

Clubbing in Berlin

Sometimes I go to Berlin for a weekend just to club. Of course, the Berghain The Panorama Bar is iconic. Definitely try to get in. If you don't succeed the first time, try again around noon. Sisyphos is fantastic, but check beforehand if there's an event. Other great clubs include Wilden Renaten, Tresor, Watergate, and Stattbad. Fun in the summer: About Blank, Kater Blau, and Club der Visionaire.

Cocktail bars in Berlin

Don't feel like a sweaty club with loud techno? Then head to one of Berlin's excellent cocktail bars! Every time I'm in Berlin, I'm amazed by the enormous mixologist culture. These are my favorite cocktail bars in Berlin: Limonadier, Reingold, Schwarze Traube, Green Door, and Würgeengel.

Good restaurants in Berlin

Fancy a leisurely dinner at one of Berlin's best restaurants? Then I have a few tips for you from places I enjoy visiting myself! I'm a fan of most of Tim Raue's restaurants. If you're looking for a less expensive meal than at his Michelin-starred restaurant, La Soupe Populaire is also highly recommended. I also enjoy dining at Herz & Niere, Cecconi's, and Noberlhart & Schmutzig.

Cycling in Berlin

Okay, okay, you're probably not going to wear a helmet like the Germans do on your bike. But Berlin is a super bike-friendly city, and when the weather is nice, I recommend wearing one. to rent a bikeFaster than public transport, and you'll see a lot of the city! Fun fact: in Berlin, they lock their bikes with a super-thin lock. A bike in Amsterdam wouldn't last an hour without being stolen with that!

Tip: Via Baja Bikes can you get a rent your own bike, but they also have different fun bike tours with a guide.

Also good to know

Berlin is incredibly child-friendly, inexpensive by Amsterdam standards, has a wealth of vegetarian and vegan restaurants, and offers a slightly alternative experience. And above all, it's a lot of fun if you know where to go!
