Amsterdam North has another new must-visit: Barbie: The Dream Experience. A massive 2.000m² exhibition in the building next to WONDR is dedicated to over sixty years of Barbie. Think life-size playsets, an exclusive shop, and even a Barbie café. I went ahead and did some research and spoke with WONDR founder Sarah Mendes about what to expect from this unique collaboration with Mattel Inc. And believe me: this is an outing you won't want to miss, whether you're going with friends for pure nostalgia or planning a day out with your kids.

As a child, you might have had a Barbie like me that you could play with for hours, but now in Amsterdam you can literally step into her world. Barbie The Dream Experience is a immersive exhibition with twelve interactive spaces. Each room takes you through a different decade of Barbie's history: from the astronaut Barbie of the '60s to the iconic Totally Hair Barbie of the '90s, following her evolution as a symbol of inspiration, dreams, and endless possibilities to be whoever you want to be. The best part? It's not just nostalgia for adults; it's also a treat for kids discovering the doll now.
In each zone, you'll step into a different era of Barbie. For example, you can walk on the moon with Astronaut Barbie, feel the flower-power vibes of Malibu Barbie in the '70s, or dive into a retro salon full of big hair from the 90s.
Of course, the classic vehicles are also present. From Barbie's pink convertible from the '80s (I had one myself as a girl!) to her first campervan and even a catamaran, you can admire them all up close. The grand finale? A life-size Barbie DreamHouse™ with a slide. You get the idea: plenty of fun photo opportunities!
Afterward, you can enjoy a bite to eat and a drink at the Barbie café or shop in the store with exclusive merchandise. Extra fun: there's even an AI photo booth where you can transform into your own Barbie. I'll definitely do that when I visit the exhibition next week! Travel and food Barbie coming soon ;-).

In my opinion, this is one of the most fun and unique new exhibitions of 2025 in Amsterdam if you're looking for a real experience. A unique blend of nostalgia and creativity for all ages, with a generous dose of fun. Whether you're going for a feel-good outing with friends, full of nostalgia, or planning a colorful day out with the kids, I already know this will be a hit with anyone looking for an original outing in Amsterdam that will help you completely forget the daily grind.
Have fun!
