3 x tips for the perfect picnic in the park!

22 June 2015

How nice is it to go have a picnic with friends at the park on a lazy Sunday? A picnic that

starts around lunch time with salads and other good stuff and then let it transition into an afternoon of relaxing in the grass and enjoying the summer in the city. I’ve decided to be healthier for this picnic summer. Leaving the baguettes with unhealthy spreads for what it is and go for the healthy green and fruit salads. Deliciously light and healthy! This way you can eat at the park on every sunny day instead of at home without feeling guilty about it ;-).

3 x picnic tips that makes your day at the park a guaranteed success:

3 picnic tips

1 >> the perfect park to picnic

There are so many fun parks in Amsterdam, but if we really need to pick then there’s definitely a few that stands out a bit more than the rest. The Vondelpark is forever a classic! Convenient too, because if you sit down near the Blauwe Theehuis then you can also sneak into their toilet sometimes when you have to go. The Vondelpark is always extra fun because you’ll bump into many people you know. Why else would they call this park the back garden of Amsterdam!

Another favourite would be the Sarphatipark. A small one, but really nice. And incredibly green. Extra fun because you can immediately go to the bar at De Pijp afterwards. Westerpark would be another great park. So big and spacious! That’s also one of the few parks in Amsterdam where you can BBQ. Good to know since summer is coming up :-).

2 >> healthy food picnic

Nothing is as good as a refreshing salad on a sunny day. The fact that it’s also healthy, just makes it even better. This summer I’ll go for healthy picnics in the park. Less bread and more greens! In just one step you can mix up your own salad together with the ingredients from the new salad shelf of Albert Heijn. Everything you need together on just one shelf. Handy! What’s going to be your favourite salad this summer? I made a new version of my favourite Caesar salad. With raw kale and grilled eggplants. So delicious! Want to make it at home? Here you can find the recipe!

Do you also get so excited when you look at the picnic photos on Pinterest with the cutest picnic cloths, baskets and tableware? Amazing for getting some inspiration before going shopping for picnic items during the afternoon. Disposable plates are convenient, but if you plan on going on picnics often then you should get proper picnic tableware. Drinking wine out of a glass is always nicer than a cup made from cupboard right? We’re a big fan of the picnic stuff from Zuperzozial! Those are made of natural materials and completely biodegradable. If it happens so that you forgot a plate after a picnic, then you don’t need to feel guilty about it. Happy healthy picnic season!
