Copenhagen is, without a doubt, one of the nicest foodie cities in Europe. Only a one hour flight away and you will find yourself in a completely different world. And it seems that the people in the Nordics are always a little ahead with being stylish and the restaurants serve more unique flavour combinations. For te launch of the limited Winter Coolection from Emmi CAFFÈ LATTE I travelled to the far North to make this city guide with my 22 favourite hotspots in Copenhagen. From restaurants to neighbourhoods you shouldn’t miss out on and from indoor food markets to the best shopping streets.

restaurant Gorilla
One of the nicest restaurants where I have been on my city trip is Gorilla. This cosy bistro, with a bar- and a restaurant part, is hidden in a corner at the Meatpacking District. The cocktails are excellent and the menu is all about classical bistro meals with a Danish twist. For example a delicious steak tartare, ceviche and oysters made with local ingredients! Perfect hotspot to sit at the bar with your lover while you talk about the fun day you had in Copenhagen.

BIKE RIDING through the city
I always feel at home when I’m in Copenhagen. The first thing I do here is to rent a bike for the weekend. No troubles with public transport! You just hop from you hotel onto the bike and in no-time you arrive at all the hotspots. Copenhagen isn’t a big city. It really reminds me a lot of Amsterdam and its bike riding culture. The difference is that in Copenhagen everyone has a cute basket at the front of their bike unlike the tough looking crates we use in Amsterdam. The nicest neighbourhoods to visit on a bike are: Vesterbro and Nørrebro.
brunch at øl & Brød
If you are a bit familiar with Copenhagen, you probably have tried a beer from local brewery Mikkeller. I always go there at least once when I’m in Copenhagen! But what I like even more is the new Øl & Brød which the sane men opened up recently. I was lucky to get a table for lunch without making a reservation. Tip: go early, because most of the tables are reserved for a later hour. Having a look at the menu my eye caught the local smörrebröd with tartare and beetroot. A good choice it was!

discover the Meatpacking District
The Meatpacking District in Copenhagen is as trendy as the one in New York. Or maybe even more trendy! It is the place to be in the evening and you can find a lot of good restaurants. In the early days this industrial area was mainly packed with shambles and meat wholesalers. Nowadays you go here for the best food and ditto cocktails. When I’m in Copenhagen you can find me here to check out the latest hotspots. Nice addresses are: Mother and Warpigs.

you want to taste this: Raw42
Before raw food became a hit in Amsterdam I ate my first bliss ball at Raw42 in Copenhagen. Since then I recommend this nice hotspot to everyone who is travelling to the North for a city trip. Delicious with an iced coffee (and you can take everything on the go!) My favourite cake is the raw cheesecake with red fruit. Also a nice address for brunch!

hotspots on the Vesterbrogade and Istedgade
One of the nicest districts in Copenhagen is Vesterbro. With beating heart the Vesterbrogade and the Istedgade where it swarms of the hotspots. My heart starts to beat a little faster when I’m in Copenhagen. I always run out of time to try and test all the cool addresses. The Vesterbrogade and the Istedgade are nice to go shopping. You will find high street stores and small boutiques. My food favourites are: NBH, Toro and LêLê.

Copenhagen Streetfood
Amsterdam has got the Food halls, Rotterdam the Felix Food Factory and Copenhagen has got Copenhagen Streetfood. An old warehouse on one of the Islands has been transformed into a food walhalla. Extra nice are the vintage stalls that are there on the weekends. Inside the warehouse is where the food vendors are and where you have to be for the best bites. My tip is to share everything so you can try it all :-).

Danish design
One of the nicest things about a city trip to the Nordics to me is the design. From furniture to clothing, it seems like everything is more stylish in the far North. However this city trip was all about good food, drinks and to enjoy the wintery sun, we obviously went shopping as well. Nice concept stores are Wood Wood and Playtime. And for the most beautiful furniture you have to go to Hay Minimarket and Hay House! Nice shopping streets in the city centre of Copenhagen are: Silkegade and Pilestræde in the neighbourhood of the main shopping street Strøget.

Asian street food
You maybe wouldn’t expect it but Copenhagen is full of the best Asian restaurants. Because I travel so often I spotted a revival of dim sum restaurants opening up. In Copenhagen you can find the coolest dim sum restaurant Magasasa. At nighttime they serve you the best cocktails! Another nice Asian restaurant is Lêlê for the nicest Vietnamese street food.

STAY with a view
Being a Zealander I love cities like Amsterdam and Zealand where there is lots of water. Strolling across the promenades and bridges. Sitting at the waterfront in Nyhavn in Copenhagen. I LOVE IT! A bit a touristy thing to do, but so much fun, is to make a round trip on the waters of Copenhagen. We stayed at STAY in Copenhagen with an amazing view over the water. A good place to be, our with HAY furniture decorated apartment. What I also really like about staying the night in a serviced apartment is that you are able to make your own breakfast in the morning!

Nordic cuisine
Being a foodie I can’t leave Copenhagen without trying out the Nordic Cuisine. You might know about it, but really the best restaurant in the world is here in Copenhagen: Noma. I went there for dinner and it is absolutely amazing! But of course there are also a lot of other really good restaurants where you can enjoy Nordic Cuisine with a smaller budget. Nice hotspots are Radio and Høst.
