10 Terraces for Drinking Aperol Spritz in Amsterdam and Rotterdam

Do you already know where you'll be enjoying the hospitality on a terrace this week? In this new terrace guide, I share 5 tips for Amsterdam and 5 tips for Rotterdam to fully enjoy the spring sunshine this week. And to support the hospitality industry even more, the best tip of all has to be this: if you order an Aperol Spritz on a terrace between April 28 and May 2, Aperol will donate an extra €1 to the establishment where you are sitting to support them even more. For me, Aperol is one of the drinks we drink a lot when we are in Austria and Italy. That is why this drink always gives me an instant holiday feeling. So, it is perfect for a holiday feeling in your own city when you settle down at one of these terraces in Amsterdam or Rotterdam this week. Have fun!

5 X nice terraces in Amsterdam

Eetcafé Schotsheuvel: One of the new terraces in Amsterdam to check out as soon as possible is definitely Eetcafé Schotsheuvel. Located on a cozy corner in Amsterdam Oud-Zuid, you don't feel at all like you're in a busy city here. Open from lunch to (very) early dinner and perfect for an aperitivo.

BAUT Oost: This hotspot is brand new too! Although it is an old acquaintance in the East, as BAUT is open again starting this week at the 'old' spot where it all began. Believe me when I say that this might just become the finest all-day terrace on Wibautstraat this summer.

IJver: How lovely does the terrace in the first photo of this guide look? It is IJver at the NDSM Wharf in Amsterdam North. First, take a look at some street art, then enjoy a nice lunch or drinks on the terrace, and take the ferry back home. With the sun on your face, a staycation feeling is guaranteed.

Wijmpje Beukers: If there is one terrace where the atmosphere is always good, it is Wijmpje Beukers. The terrace isn't large, so make sure you go early to secure a spot. Away from the hustle and bustle of De Pijp, you can catch a moment of quality time together here.

Clos: One of the nicest new terraces in East Amsterdam, which opened its doors in 2020. I mean, where else can you sit under the vines right in the middle of the city? The dishes are perfect for sharing, so I would say: make a reservation for late afternoon and turn it into an early dinner.

5 X unmissable terraces in Rotterdam

Hotel New York: I must confess that I have thought of the lovely terrace at Hotel New York in Rotterdam several times over the past few weeks. A large seafood platter, a view of the water and the water taxi passing by every now and then, the wonderful Rotterdam down-to-earthness… I have missed it!

Aloha: You don't have to go abroad for tropical vibes. In Rotterdam, simply reserve a spot on the terrace of Aloha in the old Tropicana swimming pool. Grab something tasty to eat and a drink, and imagine yourself on vacation on the Costa del Maas.

Dudok in Het Park: I can hear you thinking… Dudok in which park? In Het Park, the park where the Euromast stands near the Museum Quarter, you will find one of the locations of the famous Brasserie Dudok. Surrounded by greenery, this is a lovely spot to enjoy drinks on the terrace for the first time in a while.

De Tuin: Do you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the city a little longer? Then you'll want to know about the terrace at De Tuin van de vier windstreken. Located by the water in the Kralingsebos, you will soon be able to enjoy a lovely meal and a drink here again before or after a walk.

Biergarten: First come, first served. Reservations at this Rotterdam hotspot can only be made at the door. An institution in the city, always busy and lively. Perfect for drinks, and you gotta love them for their vision on working from home. 'Working from the terrace' is the new 'working from home'. See you there :-)?
