On tour: 10 hotspots in Amsterdam North

26 October 2015

A little tough and a little rough is how I would describe Amsterdam North. With no doubt one of my favourite neighbourhoods in Amsterdam. Here is where you find extraordinary addresses from nice restaurants to vintage stores and a cool place to have a drink at the waterfront. The hotspots here are a bit further apart than what you’re used to in the city centre of Amsterdam. So when I was asked by Mitsubishi Motors to test drive the cool Mitsubishi ASX for a day I didn’t say no! And of course that day had to be a tour passed my favourite spots in North.

In this blog I show you my favourite addresses in Amsterdam North!

Amsterdam North Guide >> touring past the nicest hotspots >>

Start your tour at the NDSM Wharf in Amsterdam North. An industrial area where you can find a lot of nice addresses to shop, eat and drink. And in summertime it’s the festival location of Amsterdam.

IJ-hallen flea market >> Amsterdam North hotspots >>

Are you heading out in the weekend? Make sure to check the calendar of the  IJ-hallen! This is the biggest indoor flea market of The Netherlands, a paradise for treasure hunters. Here you find a lot of market stalls where trendy girls sell their clothes, vintage furniture and other must-haves.
IJ-hallen, Tt. Neveritaweg 15, Amsterdam

PLLEK >> Amsterdam North NDSM Wharf hotspots >>

An address which shouldn’t be missing from any Little Black Book about Amsterdam North is Pllek. A very relaxed address at the IJ where you can find yourself a nice spot at the waterfront in winter- and in summertime. Start your day in North here with a lunch!

Woodies At Berlin >> Amsterdam North NDSM Wharf hotspots >>

Amsterdam North is packed with nice interior design stores like Woodies At Berlin. Good to know: here you can get your furniture custom made. Also for nice vintage items Woodies At Berlin is the place to be.

Street Art >> Amsterdam North NDSM Wharf Hotspots >>

The NDSM Wharf is a walhalla for everyone who loves street art. On the walls of the different ware houses you can find large and small street art from artists around the world. And the art projects change frequently so there is always something new to discover!

Café Modern >> Amsterdam North Pekstraat hotspots >>

For everyone who is looking for somewhere to eat close to the EYE Film Museum could go to the bistro of the EYE. But… it is even more fun to take a seat at Café Modern. A table d’hôte restaurant at walking distance of the museum. Very handy, because you can just leave your car where it is! The menu is always changing and dinner is limited to what the chef has prepared for you.
Café Modern, Meidoornweg 2, Amsterdam

Bistro Noord >> Amsterdam North NDSM Wharf Hotspots >>

If you ask me, Bistro Noord is the best restaurant in the NDSM Wharf neighbourhood. The menu is classic with a twist and the service is really good. First, go for a drink at the bar before yo take a table seat. The ever changing menu is a recommendation for a long evening full of dining!
Bistro Noord, Mt. Ondinaweg 32, Amsterdam

Pek market >> Amsterdam North Pekstraat hotspots >>

On Wednesday, Friday and Saturday you can go to the Pek market in the upcoming Pekbuurt in Amsterdam North. From organic food to typical market ware and with a vintage market in the weekend. Something different to the Albert Cuyp market!
Heimansweg, Amsterdam

SmaaQT >> Amsterdam North Pekstraat hotspots

A nice spot to have a sandwich or a drink later in the day. At SmaaQt they prepare everything with local products. And the interior fits right in with the outlooks of North: robust and rough!
SmaaQt, Van der Pekstraat 79, Amsterdam

Fashion & Tea >> Amsterdam North Pekstraat hotspots >>

YES, Amsterdam North has got its own fashionable concept store. Fashion & Tea you go to for a shopping spree and to buy nice gifts for yourself or a friend. Also a nice spot to go for a coffee or tea combined with a sandwich or a yummy piece of cake!

Neef Louis >> Amsterdam North hotspots >>

The address for industrial and vintage items is Neef Louis. They get new stuff in on a weekly base so there is always something to find. If you are looking for an unique item for your home, this is the place to go. You name it and they have the vintage item of it!
Neef Louis, Papaverweg 46, Amsterdam

It’s a Perfect hotspots on tour car!

I don’t have a car myself. For years I had one when I had a full-time job as a marketing manager. And when you get the chance to drive a car for a day, you get that instant feeling of pleasure again. Distances are not important and you are as free as a bird. Especially a very handy thing in Amsterdam North! The Mitsubishi ASX is the perfect car for the city with a good value for money. Personally I like the higher entry to the car, it gives you a better view. The ASX is also a very spacious car so you can easily fit in all your shopping goods (even a small piece of furniture). I really like the design of the car. A very lady like SUV, not to big, but one to show off with. Nice detail: the CO2 emission of this car is lower than average.

Have fun exploring Amsterdam North!
