Ice cream date, anyone?
One of the newest openings at Amstel1 is De Boule De Boule, an ice cream and pastry parlour just behind Waterlooplein. After trying it, I can confirm: the ice cream is really, really good.
𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗩𝗜𝗕𝗘
After seeing their Instagram, you might think of places like Folderol in Paris, the spot that became famous for pairing ice cream with wine.
But De Boule De Boule feels different. Less destination wine bar, more day-time neighbourhood café where you can stop by for homemade ice cream, a pastry, coffee and, yes, a glass of wine.
Inside you’ll find shelves filled with vinyl records, a display of freshly made ice cream and homemade pastries crafted by two in-house pastry chefs.
𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗥𝗢𝗪𝗗
Amstel1 is still being discovered by Amsterdam and it was a little quiet during our visit. I expect the vibe to only get better as more shops open and people find their way here. I’m especially curious to see how it feels this weekend with the market taking over the area for the first full weekend. This covered location with a courtyard feel is incredibly promising.
𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗪𝗘 𝗢𝗥𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗗
• Olive oil & basil ice cream with sea salt
• Chocolate ice cream with hazelnut topping
• Paired with a glass of Chardonnay and an orange wine.
All of the ice cream is made in-house and completely vegan. If nobody had told me, I honestly wouldn’t have guessed.
𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗟𝗘 𝗕𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗞 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗦 𝗜𝗧
The ice cream is excellent, but what makes De Boule De Boule interesting is that it’s more than an ice cream shop. It’s a place for coffee, pastries, a glass of wine or drinks after a performance at the Stopera.
And yes, I’m already planning to go back to try more flavours, but next time in the evening for a dessert after dinner elsewhere. Just to see how the space changes throughout the day. What I would order then? Very curious about the White Coffee ice-cream!

Hello June!
The first weekend of the month is looking very good if you ask me. Think wine festivals, vintage markets, oysters, live jazz, street art and a ridiculous amount of new restaurants to put on your radar.
This weekend I’m especially excited about Bacchus Wine Festival in the Amsterdamse Bos, Sunday Market at Westergas, the oysters & brocante afternoon at Le French Café and Red Light Jazz taking over hidden venues across the city centre.
Also fun: STRAAT Museum is hosting its first Women in Street Art Weekend at the NDSM-werf, Fort Negen is bringing back its cult-favourite pizza pop-up for two nights only, and if you’re heading to Noord anyway, it’s your last chance to cycle through Amsterdam’s Oatly Bike Thru before it disappears on June 7.
And for those always looking for new places to try: The Jollof Club, Café de Vos, Bar How and the terrace of Monne (right on the Amstel!), are all brand new and worth knowing about.

From the IJ-Hallen and Pure Markt in Park Frankendael to the Sunday Market at Rokin and treasure hunting at the Amstelveld Antiques Market.
And in Noord you’ll want to stay all day, because Stripfest is taking over the Hamerkwartier with food, music, workshops and parties at spots like FC Hyena, Skatecafé and Oedipus.
Also very into the sound of the new Zuiver Bar & Nai!! Sake Bar, Meneer van Galen and Bonburger Noord.
And yes… if you’re heading to Noord anyway, make sure to cycle past the @oatly Bike Thru for an iced matcha, specialty coffee or that viral soft serve at the Papaverhoek.

Life lately.
Soms heb ik van die momenten waarop ik even stilsta bij hoe bijzonder dit allemaal eigenlijk is.
Dat ik ruim 14 jaar geleden begon met een blog waarop ik gewoon mijn favoriete adressen wilde delen. Dat Your Little Black Book inmiddels zoveel mensen inspireert om nieuwe plekken te ontdekken. En dat ik nog steeds nieuwe bestemmingen mag verkennen, zoals deze maand Taiwan.
Wat ik misschien nog wel het leukste vind? Dat jullie overal met me mee naartoe gaan. Naar nieuwe restaurants, hotels, steden en landen. Maar ook naar de meer persoonlijke momenten tussendoor.
De lieve berichten die ik dagelijks krijg, de tips die jullie terugsturen, de plekken die jullie ontdekken via de guides. Het blijft bijzonder om te zien hoeveel mensen al jaren onderdeel zijn van deze community.
Dus tussen alle ijsjes, hotelkamers, solodagen, restauranttips en avonturen door wilde ik eigenlijk gewoon even dankjewel zeggen.

Another long weekend and honestly… Amsterdam is really showing off right now.
This Pinkster weekend is packed with festivals, food markets, and summer events all over the city. Think Asian street food at Art of Taste on Museumplein, four days of Lepeltje Lepeltje at the NDSM-werf, and so much more.
Also on my mom radar this weekend: family festival GOLD at the Amsterdamse Bostheater, Ridderweekend at Muiderslot, and Pinksterweekend at Jeugdland Amsterdam.

Zo van de airport door naar dit zaakje om soup dumplings en zó veel meer te proeven! Dat is wat ik noem een soft landing 😉 <3
In Taipei ga je naar een Soy Milk Shop voor ontbijt. Warme soy milk die je eet in een bowl en stoommandjes met de lekkerste dumplings en baozi’s. Je kunt mij echt wakker maken voor dit soort ontbijtjes. Deze lokale ontbijttentjes komen in alle soorten en maten, van Michelin-recommended adressen tot hole-in-the-wall-kraampjes.
De meeste soy milk shops zijn al vroeg (en soms zelfs 24 uur per dag) open en dit zijn de gerechten die je wilt proeven:

Deze plek heeft alles waar we blij van worden: een vintage interieur, open keuken én heerlijk eten. Yes! De poussin blijft onze favoriet en gaat gelukkig nooit van de kaart. En we zijn niet de enige! Vergeet je niet te reserveren zodat je zeker bent van een plekje.

De Biertuin
Naast de juicy burgers en de lekkere spareribs, kun je bij De Biertuin ook een halve of hele kip van het spit bestellen. Met inmiddels drie vestigingen is deze spot perfect als je even gezellig en betaalbaar een hapje wilt eten met vrienden. Ik bedoel: een half kippetje voor € 16,50 dat is toch een goede prijs in deze tijd! De kippetjes komen zo van de rotisserie en zijn altijd perfect gegaard. En wist je dat ze bij De Biertuin ook regelmatig Sunday Roast doen? Ook een tip om te onthouden!

Ladybird Fried Chicken
Kaviaar op je kip? Bij Ladybird Fried Chicken worden je stoutste dromen werkelijkheid. Deze zaak tilt het frituren naar een hoger niveau, doordat de oprichters en chefs de wereld rondreisden op zoek naar de lekkerste kiprecepten. Die vind je nu ook aan het Sarphatipark.

Chris Kip
Op de Albert Cuyp vind je Chris Kip, een poelier met grote liefde voor zijn vak. Al sinds 1928 voorziet deze kraam Amsterdam van de lekkerste kip, om zelf thuis te bereiden of kant-en-klaar van het spit.

Gangnam Chicken
Voor Korean fried chicken ben je bij Gangnam Chicken op de juiste plek. De kip is knapperig van buiten, sappig van binnen en komt met verschillende smaakvolle marinades. De Soy/Garlic en Honey/Lemon zijn echte aanraders. Binnen eten kan niet echt, maar het is ideaal om af te halen en ergens buiten op een bankje op te smullen.

Nog meer goede restaurants met kip in Amsterdam
THE Beef Chief
Waarschijnlijk ken je The Beef Chief Amsterdam van hun keuken bij de Oedipus Brouwerij. Helaas is die plek nu tijdelijk gesloten totdat ze een nieuwe locatie vinden (en je dus ook in Noord weer van de sappige burgers kunt genieten). Maar wie van kip houdt, gaat natuurlijk voor hun heerlijke chicken burger.

Kim’s So Korean Fusion
Een tijdje geleden opende Kim’s So Korean Fusion z’n deuren in Amsterdam Oost. Bij deze zaak (hun tweede vestiging, de eerste is Kim’s So Korean Food in Chinatown) serveren ze Koreaans eten met een moderne twist: gerechten die de Koreaanse en internationale keuken laten samensmelten, waaronder een overheerlijke fried chicken.

Van ’t Spit
Als je zin hebt in écht goede kip, dan is Van ’t Spit de plek waar je wilt zijn. Hier draait alles om hun sappige gegrilde kip, waarbij het enige wat je hoeft te kiezen is: ga je voor een hele of een halve? Vergeet zeker niet de zoete aardappelpuree erbij te bestellen, die wil je niet missen. Liever thuis genieten? Je kunt hun kip ook makkelijk afhalen.

YES! Barbecue time! Op Zuid-Afrikaanse kolen worden malse stukken vlees klaargemaakt terwijl jij toekijkt. Like! De Chicken piri piri is onze favoriet. Maar de chicken sosatie zijn ook erg goed!
