26 X best vegetarian restaurants in Amsterdam to try at least ones

Honestly? Vegetarian dining in Amsterdam should no longer be highlighted in a list as separate restaurants. It’s almost uncommon for restaurants to have no vegetarian dishes on the menu. And thankfully, it’s become relatively standard for us to choose vegetarian dishes more often. So, it’s time for a mega-update of our list of the best vegetarian restaurants in Amsterdam. After all, you simply choose the most delicious dish from the menu without necessarily worrying if it’s veg or vegan, right? And I could go on to tell you that eating less meat and fish is better for the environment, but I’ll spare you that spiel. We’re familiar with it by now. Everyone wants to dine at the vegetarian restaurants in Amsterdam on this list, whether you’re a vegetarian or not!

Kanarie club

If you’re looking for a great all-day spot for vegetarian dining, you don’t need to search anymore. The Kanarie Club in Amsterdam West, situated in a former tram depot, is your answer! And did I mention they also have a lovely terrace? It recently underwent a major update, but what hasn’t changed is that it’s still a wonderful place to bask in the sun. The renewed menu of Kanarie Club offers vegetarian brunch, drinks, and dinner dishes with influences from Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and European cuisines. Whether you’re in the mood for a 3-course meal or want to fill the table with delicious shareable dishes, you can do it all here! From ‘Matcha midnight oats’ in the morning, to a delightful locally sourced organic burrata toast, to miso-grilled eggplant: the combinations on the new menu are finger licking good. I like to visit here before catching a movie at the Film Hallen!

Café Beurre

Cafe Beurre Amsterdam might just be the best new vegetarian hotspot in the city. Since its opening, this restaurant has been packed every evening. And we understand why! Café Beurre is an incredibly charming restaurant with a menu full of delicious vegetarian dishes. The owners of this restaurant might be ‘old’ acquaintances for the foodies among us. Owner Kim Jongbloed previously worked at Balthazar’s Keuken, his aunt’s restaurant, with whom he has now started Café Beurre. You can immediately sense the team’s experience within the Amsterdam restaurant scene. Café Beurre is simple yet warmly and elegantly designed, featuring a cosy bar as well as white-clothed tables. It offers a delightful atmosphere, giving us a touch of a French vibe. Good to know: Café Beurre Amsterdam doesn’t take reservations. This makes the ambience approachable and encourages spontaneous visits for a lovely evening. Arriving a bit early helps in snagging a table!

Lowlander Botanical Bar & Restaurant

One of the best new vegetarian restaurants in Amsterdam North! At Lowlander Botanical Bar & Restaurant, you can even enjoy a 100% plant-based experience. Though most vegan restaurants no longer shout that from the rooftops. After all, it’s about good food, and whether it’s vegan or veggie… it really shouldn’t matter in 2023. I recently dined on the terrace here, and every dish that came by was incredibly flavorful and delicious. Pair it with a beer from their own brewery, and you’re all set!

Madre

Craving a night of the finest flavours from Mexico? Then you need to know about Madre! This hotspot in the Jordaan isn’t just vegetarian, but everything on the menu is vegan and divine. They have a lively bar up front where you can enjoy great cocktails. The restaurant’s interior is also quite impressive! There’s often a DJ spinning tunes or live music playing. Be sure to order the guacamole, as it’s prepared table side and incredibly delicious. Also nice: during Taco Tuesday, you can enjoy tacos with a cocktail for just a little over €20.

Next

NEXT at the NDSM wharf is the new addition by the team behind PLLEK. You could consider it as the bigger, more mature, yet still rebellious and unclassifiable sibling. They’re open seven days a week from as early as 9:30 AM, so it’s also a great spot for breakfast. But it might be even more of a place where you head in the late afternoon for a drink. Then, you might find yourself not wanting to leave. You linger for dinner, and even after your meal, NEXT is the right place to be, as the cocktail bar is where you can enjoy another cocktail and turn it into an (unplanned) party.

Corner Store

One of the best new restaurants in Amsterdam North. Yet another gem from the team behind Binnenvisser and Cafe Twee Prinsen. For a while now, you can easily make online reservations, so hop on that bike to North and give it a taste. They welcome you for dinner starting at 6:00 PM, and what truly sets the atmosphere of this gastrobar apart are the shelves filled with records. Inspired by music bars like those you find in Japan. In this restaurant in North, music, natural wines, and a menu based on local ingredients blend with Asian flavours. Vegetarian is the foundation here, with meat or fish as the exception!

Mana Mana

Mana Mana is a small Israeli restaurant where you can enjoy excellent vegetarian and vegan food. Veganees

Have you spotted this new restaurant in Amsterdam West on 1e Constantijn Huygenstraat? De Veganees is an innovative concept that prioritizes sustainability, and this commitment is deeply integrated into the restaurant. Not only through its plant-based menu, but also by incorporating sustainable and natural materials in the interior design. The floor is made of bamboo, and the ceiling is constructed from various recycled materials. On the menu of this vegan Asian restaurant, you’ll find delicious street food from different countries, all plant-based. Expect colourful dishes that are perfect for sharing, from bites to bao buns, and from stir-fries to curries. They also have a spacious terrace and are open every day from 4 PM.

Kaasfondue Restaurant Smelt

It’s no secret that for one of the most delicious cheese fondues in Amsterdam, you should head to Restaurant Smelt in the Jordaan or at Westerpark. Two locations with their own distinct character. How did it all begin? In the heart of the Jordaan, in one of the Nine Streets, you’ll find Café de Doffer and De Kaaskamer van Amsterdam, both longstanding institutions in Amsterdam. They merged into a new concept where the coziness of an Amsterdam café and the delicious cheeses come together; Restaurant Smelt Amsterdam. Here, you can enjoy delightful cheese fondue while feeling like you’re in a typical Amsterdam pub. The second location at Westerpark offers a different vibe but is equally charming, making it a great choice for group dining as well.
