7 May 2017

URBAN NOMADs are always on the hunt for UPCOMING neighborhoods!

The nice thing about cities is that they are always chancing, every day something new opens and as a real nomads it’s our job to always be on the hunt for upcoming neighborhoods. There are upcoming neighborhoods who are still rough and there are cool neighborhoods who were once upcoming and rough, but now everybody likes to come.

More hotspots

Bushwick in New York and Hackney in London are examples of upcoming neighborhoods and Williamsburg in New York and Shoreditch in London are not upcoming anymore, but still cool and definitely really fun to visit and walk around. The Attractiveness of these neighborhoods is huge and as a urban nomad there is nothing more fun then discover new neighborhoods and visit them.

In this blog I share 15 tips from my book Wanderlust to discover upcoming neighbourhoods worldwide!

15 X TIPS to discover UPCOMING neighbourhoods

  1. Old buildings, like fabrics, are being transformed into restaurants, shops and markets.
  2. You will find galleries of young artists.
  3. There are underground parties (in the fabrics that aren’t transformed yet)
  4. Spot pop-up stores and indoor markets where companies sell their brands in mini-shop in-shops.
  5. Young families with children are moving into bigger and (for now) more affordable houses.
  6. Barbiers, yoga schools, tattoo shops and organic food stores are doing business in the same street  (do you feel the contrast?).
  7. The interior of one restaurant is even cooler than an other one. A few entrepreneurs  try to start a new concept and within weeks, other will follow until the neighborhood will be filled with new concepts and hotspots.
  8. New ideas in de food industry,like micro-coffee breweries and craft beer- brewers, are opening their first shop.
  9. There is a farmers market or food (truck) market in the weekend. If you are lucky there is a indoor food market in one of the industrial factories.
  10. You will find new restaurant concepts who anticipate on new foodtrends, like  taqueria’s (for the best taco’s), cevicherias and  Asian burger places where they serve baos.
  11. Conceptstores sell the prettiest stuff form local designers and unknown brands.
  12. Also nice: if you are lucky there is a chance you will find a  2-in-1-concept. Like a coffeespot where they also repair you bike or a shop where you can also have lunch.
  13. Drinks you will drink at a rooftop bar, cocktailbar or local beer cafe.
  14. You can stay in a boutique hotel with a personal interior or a design hostel.
  15. If you are lucky you will find the most artistic  street art!
