Umami by Han Amsterdam: for Asian fusion dishes from Michelin chef Han Ji

umami by han

Umami by Han Amsterdam is now also in amsterdam

The latest Asian asset in Amsterdam is the special Umami by Han Amsterdam on the Overtoom. Owner Han Ji may be familiar to you from the Michelin restaurant HanThing Cuisine in The Hague. Or of the other Umami restaurants that you find in Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Maastricht and even in Beijing. Three of these restaurants have been awarded a Bib Gourmand. That is promising!

We probably don’t have to explain where the name Umami by Han comes from. Umami is of course the fifth basic flavour next to sweet, sour, etc. and is widely used in Asia. Umami can also be described as ‘savory’ or ‘boullion-like’. Think of ingredients like seaweed, soy sauce and mushrooms. Han is of course the famous Michelin chef ;-)

at Umami by Han you order special dishes that stay with you

All right, the menu! At Umami by Han Amsterdam you can go for Asian fusion dishes with a special touch. You can for instance order sauerkraut with saffron, but also smoothed shark fillet… Yep, really! But also crunchy soft-shell crab, chicken meatball and scallops, red beet with Chinese streaky bacon, salmon with posted rice and haricots verts with piccalilly. Special, right? But nice!

Nice: with each dish on the menu you can see which wine fits well. And all the dishes you can share, we love shared-dining!

No time to dine extensively at Umami by Han Amsterdam? Then go for the 40 minute lunch or an Asian afternoon tea with friends.
