10 things to do on your first time in New York

27 December 2015

Top 10 highlights in New York City!

There are so many cool cities in the world but there is not one like New York. What an extraordinary, beautiful city. My first city trip to NYC is already ten years ago. And at Yourlbb we try to update the City Guide as many times as possible. Discovering the newest dinner, drink and hotel  hotspots. Are you visiting New York for the first time? Obviously you want to see all the highlights of the city! Well, we tested them all for you and made it to a list: 10 things to do on your first time in New York. Enjoy!

Empire State Building New York

Empire State Building >>>

There are lots of cool rooftops in New York with an amazing view of the city. But do you want to have the best view, than you obviously have to go to the Empire State Building. With a 381 meter hight (and 102 levels) the second highest skyscraper of NY. Tip: try to go on a bright day so you can see as far as possible or go at nighttime to see the lighten up city!

Top of the Rock >>>

Top of the Rock at the Rockefeller Centre also has an amazing view of the city. Not as high as the Empire State Building so you actually have a better idea about how big Manhattan really is. With a nice view on the green Central Park, the renewed WTC and other impressive skyscrapers.

Central Park New York

Central Park >>>

Not to miss when you are in New York: the famous and popular Central Park in Manhattan! In summertime you can have a nice picnic in the park or listen to concerts. Visit Central Park Zoo or go to the hidden waterfalls to cool down. In wintertime this is the perfect spot to go iceskating! Tip: rent a bike to see the whole park in one day; it’s too big to walk!

New York Baseball >>>

Baseball is hot in America and it’s actually a must do while you are on a city trip to New York. Get tickets for a game of the Yankees or the Mets. Cool thing to do with your lover or with a group of friends! The stadion of the Yankees in Harlem is also cool to visit without going to a game. It’s sooooo big!

Ferry >>>

Are you in a city situated at water, I always recommend you to take a ferry! In New York you can take a ferry from Manhattan to Staten Island. A good way to spot the Statue of Liberty and the view on Lower Manhattan is amazing. You will find a lot of locals on the free ferry but if you want to go to Liberty Island to visit the Statue of Liberty you’re better of taking the tourist boat .

Statue of liberty >>>

Either way, the Statue of Liberty is a must visit highlight. The symbol of freedom in America and enormously famous. Did you know you can also enter the statue? You can walk up the stairs pretty much all the way up to the crown.

Helicopter New York

Helicopter flight >>>

One to put on top of your bucket list: a helicopter flight over New York City! If I believe Anne it’s an amazing experience! Which I can totally imagine. How cool to see Manhattan from a helicopter. I must say, it’s not a cheap thing to do and the flight is short (like 15 minutes). But it is a once in a lifetime experience!

bike riding in New York >>>

Something I always love doing on a city trip, is riding a bike. This way you can see so much more of a city in one day! Are you in New York, rent a bike and go to Central Park. There are almost no cars here and they have bike lanes. Another awesome thing to do: ride your bike via the Brooklyn Bridge to Brooklyn!

The High Line >>>

The High Line is a very special city park. This park is located above the ground on an old train rails above the streets of Manhattan! Super nice for a stroll or on your way to Meatpacking District. Especially bring a visit to the Chelsea Market and at the end of the route to Whitney Museum.

Museum >>>

New York has a few must visit museums which we always go to. Especially nice when you, for example, first have an extensive lunch somewhere and then look at some modern art, special exhibitions, sculptures and other eccentric art. Our favourites? The Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET), Guggenheim, Whitney Museum, Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) and The Frick Collection.
