Pierre** Hong Kong: fine dining at the Mandarin Oriental hotel

Dinner at Pierre Hong Kong with harbor view and unique dishes

It doesn’t really matter how much I travel, it will always remain special to me how you can have dinner at the other side of the world within half a day. It already seems a couple of days ago that we arrived in Hong Kong after a flight by Cathay Pacific that took nearly 12 hours. But it’s still only 36 hours ago that we check into the Mandarin Oriental hotel where the Michelin star restaurant Pierre** is located.

Tip: would you like to know what it’s like to stay in the five star hotel The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong? Read the extensive blog here >>

Piere** is one of the restaurants that’s located in the Mandarin Oriental. Did you know that three of the restaurants even have a Michelin star? Piere**, Mandarin Grill + Bar* and Man Wah*. Like the name might suggest, Pierre is a French restaurant with Chef Pierre Gagnaire in charge. For whoever perhaps recognized the name, Pierre also has an establishment in London, paris, Tokyo and Ho Chi Minh.

Believe me when I say that lunch or dinner at restaurant Pierre** is a very special experience. Make sure to ask for a table by the window when you reserve a table. From the floor up to the ceiling the giant windows give you an amazing view of the skyline of Kowloon on the other side of Hong Kong Island. The restaurant is decorated with dark colours and the eyecatcher is the enormous elongated crystal chandelier. Chique and modern and when we enter, dressed in our little black dresses we are led to our table directly by the window.

We stayed on the 20th floor and Pierre**, together with M Bar and Man Wah*, is situated on the 25th floor of the Mandarin Oriental hotel. Whenever I’m travelling I always like to go looking for the culinary extremes in a city. To grab something to eat at a night market among the locals one evening, and the next evening dress up and sit down at one of the best restaurants in the city. During our evening at Pierre** we’ve had an extensive dinner and enjoyed several dishes from the á la carte menu. You can also choose a menu by the Chef that varies per season and has four to six courses. Also very fun: in Hong Kong brunch during the weekends is a real thing and Pierre** is now also open for a delicious breakfast / brunch buffet on Sunday. Depending on your mood you can have a free flow of Ruinart champagne with it, or kombucha (fermented tea).

We start our evening at Pierre** with a nice glass of rose champagne. Like you’d expect in a French restaurant, the wines are impotred from France. Unless you’re a true connaisseur, I’d advise you to ask the sommeliers to pour a fitting wine to match the dishes of your choice. On the menu you’ll find dishes from the land and the sea where most dishes consist of several smaller dishes, but prepared in various ways. The completion of the dishes can vary per season, but for example there’s always a starter with langoustine and foie gras on the menu. The champagne is served with several delicious amuse bouche that really makes you want to look forward to all the dishes that are yet to come.

Curious as to the dishes we’ve tasted at Pierre**? Quickly check out the pictures below for a good impression of the evening. Have fun if you’re going to plan a culinary evening at Pierre** during your next trip to Hong Kong!
