Nolita has so many nice restaurants. And Uncle Boons is definitely one of them.
The owners got their inspiration for the interior from traditional Thai homes from the 60’s and 70’s. It’s an authentic-Thai-meets-coolest-kitsch-funky kinda place. Everywhere you see Thai newspapers, old pictures of Thai people, and 3-dimensional silver dragon art that just looks so perfect here. Awesome style. And don’t forget the Top 40 Thai music playing in the background (Ducksauce in Thai still sounds fun).
We love coming here. The low-light scene makes it perfect for couples but also for friends to eat here.
I would call it traditional, but maybe a bit more exclusive Thai food. Same same but different. It’s pretty spicy (like literally fire coming out of your mouth spicy) so make sure you order that extra bowl of Sticky Rice. We’re huge fans of the Chicken and Banana Blossom Salad. Luckily my Singha beer helps to stop the hiccups for a moment. God… Lips… On fire..! Next time I’m taking that Beer Slushy everyone is raving about…
Try to make a reservation online. Otherwise just stop by and let them take down your number. They’ll send you a text message whenever your table is ready. Don’t be disappointed if the wait is long (1,5 hrs is no exception). There are a couple of nice bars in the same street. Or just try to get a seat at the small bar in the front of Uncle Boons, and take that Kaffir Lime and Galangal cocktail.
