My new life as New York City girl
My first week as an expat in New York City is a fact :-). What a week! And off course so many things still on the bucketlist to see and try and test. But today I will give my sore feet a little rest… cause I’m going to work on my first B. in New York City blog.
Smorgasburg foodie market
If you’re planning on a trip to New York City this summer or fall, a must go is food and flea market Smorgasburg in Dumbo or Williamsburg (Brooklyn). The food market reminds me of the ‘Rollende Keukens’ in Amsterdam. But then without the cute little food trucks and with the best view ever! At the food market in Smorgasburg they have amazing burgers (and an amazing long line of people wanting to buy one), lots of food stalls with healthy food, and pitchers with the most delicious summer shakes. Tip: bring your own beer from the super market if you want to have a drink at the waterfront watching the Manhattan skyline. At Smorgasburg they have a separate area where it’s aloud to serve beers and that doesn’t have a view on the skyline. So watch out for the park ranger and bring your own drinks in a brown paper bag. Almost like in the movies! Smorgasburg food and flea market is held very weekend on Saturday or Sunday until November 24th. Check out the website before you go. One day in the weekend they have a flea market with the most beautiful vintage jewelry and clothes!
Shopping in Williamsburg
As soon as you go to Williamsburg I’m sure you will fall in love! Williamsburg is home to many great shops, bars and restaurants. For example the home and living store A&G Merch. This shop has the coolest stuff for your home. And good news: they have a webshop too (ordering that awesome industrial lamp online is on my to do list!).
Our new love for Mexican food
We’re true foodists! And have a weakness for cute looking restaurants and bars. So when we passed the Mexican restaurant Rosarito Fish Shack that looked sooo cool, we just had to stop by for more food :-). And we were just in time! Little more than 30 minutes later a long line cued up at Rosarita Fish Shack. And I understand why, you can sit outside on small wobbly tables. Very New York style!. And even inside they have a nice bar which is a bit loud but very cosy. But now about the food… it’s so good. Nothing like the Mexican restaurants in Amsterdam I know. My recommendation is the fish stew!
Nice for after dinner drinks is the bar Fada , a French bistro with a typical New York terrace on the stoop. We just HAD to do one more drink here, because it looked so super cute! And the vibe at Fada is really nice. On the weekends they have live Jazz music. For dinner you can eat out in the garden, which is really nice and green. Definitely try this one out!
