START THE NEW YEAR WELL WITH ONE OF THESE TO DO’S IN AMSTERDAM!

Do you recognize that? For us, 2017 really went by fast. The first day of January is always a good day to think about how fast time flies and to work on my New Year’s resolutions. However, I usually give up on them after a few weeks ;-) That’s why it might be a better idea to go to Amsterdam on the first day of the new year. When the worst fatigue and the hangover of last night have passed, that’s the perfect moment to go into the city. Because you might not expect it, but there’s plenty to do in the city! Where should you be on January 1 2018? We’ve put together the best to do’s for you.

THESE ARE THE BEST TO DO’S ON NEW YEAR’S DAY 2018 IN AMSTERDAM

Cheese fondue: What is better than starting the year with a calorie bomb? ;-) Hit the supermarket before January 1st for some ingredients for a cheese fondue with friends. Tip: besides your regular baguette and vegetables, also get yourself some fresh raviolis and small meat balls. These will give your fondue an upgrade. Not feeling like shopping for groceries? Then have some cheese fondue at these hotspots in Amsterdam!

Amsterdam Light Festival: Want to do a romantic lit up walk or boat tour? Then go to the Amsterdam Light Festival! Of course you don’t have to take your lover, your best friends will do just fine! Grab a wine and let’s enjoy the beautiful light sculptures.

To the cinema: New Year’s Day is also a great day to sit in a cinema chair and see a good (or really bad, that’s okay too ;-)) movie. Check out our list with must-see movies in January and get inspired.

Watch a film or series: Do you prefer to stay inside? Then nestle on the couch with a blanket and a series or Christmas movie (yes, that’s still allowed)! Tip: we’re completely addicted to Black Mirror and Stranger Things ;-)

Ice skating: Let’s sweat out last night’s alcohol and go ice skating. On the Jaap Edenbaan, for example, or between the I Amsterdam letters on the Museumplein. Every year again a magical experience!

Take a walk: New Year’s Day is the perfect day to get a breath of fresh air in the Amsterdamse Bos or Vondelpark. Take your dog or your neighbour’s dog with you and take a long walk. Then you can reward yourself for all that sportiness on the first day of the year with a hot chocolate with whipped cream ;-) Check our list where you can score the best hot chocolate in Amsterdam!

Visit a museum: Most museums in Amsterdam are open almost all year round. For example, the Rijksmuseum is open 365 days a year and the Stedelijk Museum is also open on New Year’s Day.

Artis: Artis is also open all year. Dealing with your hangover in a zoo in the middle of the city: could be worse if you ask us! Nothing is more fun than watching monkeys and penguins on the first day of the year, right?

Happy New Year!
