Joburg is a hidden gem… hiding in plain sight!

Earlier this year I went to Johannesburg for the first time. When I told my friends about the upcoming trip all I got was frowns. “Johannesburg? Really? Isn’t that super dangerous and boring?” Well peeps, with this blog I want to kill this negative image once and for all. I’ve seen many cities… And trust me… Jozi (like I call my love Johannesburg nowadays) is AWESOME!

Win 2 tickets to South Africa! >> share your hidden gem >>

I know, my hidden gem is not so hidden. No, my hidden gem Johannesburg is hiding in plain sight. And that’s exactly the reason why I shared this gem on mijnzuidafrika.nl/juweeltjes. I think this vibrant city deserves a better image.

Via South African Tourism you can win 2 tickets to South Africa to check Jozi out yourself. The only thing you have to do is to upload your hidden gem on the website. Good news: you can even win if you haven’t been in South Africa yet. Just vote for the three hidden gems of others you like best! In the meanwhile I keep my fingers crossed to win the tickets so I can show my love all the hotspots in Joburg!

3 hotspots you have to see in Johannesburg!

To get you all in the South Africa mood I want to share a preview of the city guide to Johannesburg that will soon be published on Your Little Black Book. These are 3 hotspots to check out on your next trip:

1) Maboneng Precinct >> the hottest neighbourhood of Johannesburg with Fox Street as the central street. Stroll around the weekend market called ‘Market on Main’, the art galleries of Arts on Main and the trendy restaurants Canteen and Pata Pata. The number one hotspot for cocktails is rooftop-bar the Living Room!

2) Street Art >> WOW! Johannesburg is heaven for everyone who likes street art just as much as I do. Maboneng and Newtown are packed with huge murals. The iconic artwork of Nelson Mandela impressed me the most!

3) The Beach >> Imagine… downtown Johannesburg in the upcoming neighbourhood Braamfontein there’s a rooftop where you can relax with your feet in the sand and a cocktail in your hand. It’s all possible in Jozi! And if you’re there on a Saturday the Neighbourgoods Market with delicious food is right across the street. Great spot to stuff your face before clubbing at Great Danes club ;-)!
