Smith & Mills, cool but warm, fancy but low-key drink and dine spot

I spotted this small place in Tribeca last summer when we were having dinner at the restaurant across the street, Locanda Verde. When it’s warm outside Smith & Mills opens up the thick metal doors, but it still feels like you ‘re having dinner in a cozy intimate setting. I guess that’s why I even noticed the place. Because it’s really kind of hidden. You would pass by if you weren’t paying attention. Love the industrial decor and old elevator which serves as a toilet now. The soft camel color couches give it a modern-chic feeling. Cool but warm, fancy but low-key. So New York.

It’s also a great place to drink pre- or post dinner cocktails at the bar. But keep in mind that it’s a well-known spot amongst locals so it gets wrapped up easily. Always smart to have a plan b (I suggest Brandy Library or Weather up)!

Or try lunch or brunch. Opening hours are perfect: every day from 11 am to 2am and from Thursday till Saturday until 3am. Best time on Sunday would seem around 2pm, we had the place almost all by ourselves.
