Ron Gastrobar Amsterdam: the new restaurant by Ron Blaauw – with video

12 April 2013

Ron Gastrobar new restaurant by Ron Blaauw

A few weeks ago Ron Blaauw announced to hand in his Michelin stars and to start a new restaurant concept called Ron Gastrobar Amsterdam. Ron Blaauw is tired of all the over styled complex dishes and wants to cook like his favourite restaurants like Rijsel, Wilde Zwijnen and Gebr. Hartering. And let that be my favourite restaurants too! So you can imagine that I had high expectations and wanted to check the new concept at Ron Gastrobar Amsterdam out as soon as possible. Something that didn’t change is the service level. For Amsterdam standards the service is great at Ron Blaauw Amsterdam. Start the night with a glass of bubbly and some appetizers. Delicious crispy spring onions and fresh baked bread with caramelized butter. The menu at Ron Gastrobar Amsterdam consists of a large choice of unique dishes for € 15,- per dish. They advice to order at least two dishes per person. But I think that’s for the skinny people among us. We ended up ordering four and a desert ;-). Off course it depends on what you order as well how stuffed you feel. And… we just wanted to try as many of those delicious and beautiful plates as we could on our first visit. Thumbs up for the lovely tableware as well. The colours of the ceramic look great with the colours of the dishes. But best of all is the taste at Ron Gastrobar Amsterdam. I know it’s not for everyone, but the dish with a preparation of goose is delicious… As well as the tartar, the king crab, the Wagyuburger, the risotto and the sweetbread of veal. Not to forget about the selection of cheese from the Dutch cheese queen Betty Koster.
