9 x beer breweries in Amsterdam you have to know

beer breweries in Amsterdam where you want to go this weekend

Beer breweries are hot! Not only in Amsterdam, also in the rest of The Netherlands they’re popping up everywhere. Local breweries are making the best craft beers and we can finally taste them. But where can we find the best beer breweries in Amsterdam? We gathered them in one list, specially for you. Cheers!

9 x beer breweries in Amsterdam to test with friends\

Craft & Draft: At the Overtoom you can go to Craft & Draft for a delicious, cold beer. When you enter, the forty beer taps on the wooden bar and the modern interior are immediately getting your attention. Nice: the selection of international beers changes every week, so that’s reason enough to get back every week. They also have a small shop where you can buy beer to drink at home on the couch.

Poesiat & Kater: Poesiat & Kater Amsterdam is your favorite to go to if you like beer, beer and fun with friends. And to be honest, who does not like that ;-) A restaurant in the monumental building of the Oostergasfabriek with a big terrace where you can spend the whole day in the sun with a self-brewed beer and snacks to complete your sunny afternoon.

De Prael: This is not only a good brewery but also a nice one! Here they cultivate their own hop and grain (well, as much as possible). De Prael is besides a brewery also a social workplace: people with psychiatric help here to brew the best craft beers. And like at beer brewery ‘t IJ they have a tasting room to try all their beers! Ps: they have two locations: De Prael Houthavens and De Prael on the Wallen.

Brewery ’t IJ: Brewery ’t IJ is one of the largest beer breweries in Amsterdam! You can try their specialty beers at a so called proeflokaal (tasting room) with sunny terrace. And what you find on the tap changes regularly. Beer brewery ‘t IJ also brews beers in collaboration with other national and international breweries.

Oedipus: Four friends who love beer so much, that they started their own brewery. That’s Oedipus! The names of the beers are fantastic. Think Panty (pantyhose), Mama (mom), Papa (dad) and Lekkerbek (delicacies). Oedipus beer is available at lots of nice places in Amsterdam like Staring at Jacobs, Volt and for example Hannekes Boom.

Brewery Troost: Brewery Troost started with three beers: Blond, Weizen and the India Pale Ale (I.P.A). Now they expanded the range of beers to suits al tastes. And not a beer lover? Try their (Troost) gin!

De Bierfabriek: De Bierfabriek might be a very small brewery, but nevertheless one that has to be on your list! Here they brew three kinds of beer. And when you try these at De Bierfabriek you can eat a nice bite at the same time.

De 7 Deugden: Here they brew specialty beers that are just a little different than you’re used to. They use different herbs and spices during the brewing process! Furthermore, this brewery is also a workplace for people for whom it’s not possible to work an ordinary job.

Butcher’s Tears: A small, alternative but cool brewery in Amsterdam is Butcher’s Tears. To be found at the industrial area at the Karperweg in Old South. We really like the names of the special beers, think of Smoke & Mirrors, Lost in Space en Misery King.

To which beer breweries in Amsterdam do you love to go?

PS: Outside of Amsterdam there are two breweries you definitely have to know: Kompaan and Oersoep! Kompaan is a beer brewery and tasting room at a very cool industrial location in The Hague. The microbrewery Oersoep at Nijmegen likes to experiment with their beers. Let the different specialty beers surprise you! And nice to know: one of the brewers here is a lady!
