Amsterdam weekend guide for March 10, 11 & 12

HAPPY WEEKEND! It’s already March and that means that the market- and festival season has started. This weekend you can go to different markets such as De Kloffie Markt, the IJ-Hallen and the Sunday Market, and to festivals like the Amsterdam Coffee FestivalBLEND Festival and CinemAsia Film Festival. This weekend it’s also the perfect time to discover Amsterdam East during the 24H in Amsterdam Oost. Nice! What else can you do in Amsterdam this weekend?   • This entire weekend you can go to Something Raw Festival 2017. A performance festival with different performances and new generation choreographers and performers. Quickly buy tickets!

  • New month, new movies! We gathered the best and newest movies to see in the cinema this month.
  • On Saturday and Sunday we can go vintage shopping at the IJ-Hallen in Amsterdam North. Vintage designer bags, old posters, retro closets and books, you’ll find everything there.

  • Would you prefer to shop for only second hand (designer) clothing and accessories? Then go to De Kloffie Markt on Saturday in De Hallen.

  • This whole weekend it’s the CinemAsia Film Festival, or in other words the most beautiful movies, documentaries, and blockbusters that are from China, Japan, and Indonesia. Hurry up and buy your ticket, and let yourself be surprised!

  • Not sure what to do today? We made thé Amsterdam Bucketlist with 56 things you need to do at least once in your life in Amsterdam.
  • Nachtgasten, Theater Bellevue, Generale Oost and Wintertuin have joined forces with this new project. Young writers with different backgrounds will write a storyline. These will then be played by various guest actors, in which they’ll improvise! By giving each other feedback and seeing the performances, the writers will be able to further develop their pieces to create an entire play that will be performed in the future. So nice!

  • Working on your summer bod? With hot yoga, swimming, body pump or fitness? At David Lloyd you can choose from dozens of group lessons and after that calm down in the sauna! We’re real fans of the hot yoga class on Monday as a good starter of the new week.
  • Till the 19th of March you can go to the Roze Filmdagen during the LGBTQ Film Festival in the Westergasfabriek. They’re showing a huge array of movies. This year for the first time they’ll be showing ‘intersex’ and ‘transgender’ movies.

  • Saturday is the Women’s March. Walk along with hundreds of women (and men) from the Dam to Museumplein and stand up for women’s rights, equality, and the end of discrimination.
  • This Saturday you can go to BLEND Festival in Amsterdam East. At 12.00 it’s the giveaway market, at 17.00 the FoodShare, and at 20.000 the afterparty. Bring your giveaway stuff and dishes to share!

  • This Saturday it’s time for 24H in Amsterdam East. You can discover the neighbourhood at 49 different locations. Make chocolate art, drink coffee-gin-tonic, or go to the pop-up-pinpongbar or trampolinedisco. Download the program on the website.
  • In the mood for a cultural afternoon? We gathered the best exhibitions to go to this month!
  • On Friday and Saturday you can go to Cinedans; an international dance and movie festival where you can see short and long dancefilms, documentaries, and interactive installations. Cinedans will be in the EYE!

  • Spring is coming! Time to Spring-proof your house with lots of green from the nice green shops.
  • Go to the second edition of The Tøj Tøj Club this weekend and shop high-end clothing and accessories from brands such as Won Hundred, Ami, Wood Wood and POP CPH for a really nice price. The Tøj Tøj Club will be held in De Marktkantine. 

  • Go to shops like X-Bank, Local Good Store, Moooi, Droog en Robins Hood, for NL design!

Weekend guide museum en culture

  • At Stadsarchief you can go to Stad in Oorlog Amsterdam 1940 – 1945 in foto’s to see photos that have not been published before of Amsterdam in times of war, that give us a realistic image of the war and the occupation. The exhibition is till June 14.
  • Till the 7th of May you can go to 100 Jaar Schiphol – Klaar voor Vertrek in the Amsterdam Museum. You can learn everything there is to know about our airport here.
  • In the Stedelijk Museum you can see Verliefde Camera by  Ed van der Elksen. One of the biggest Dutch photographers and documentary filmmakers of the 20th century shows his best work of the last 25 years. You can see the exhibition until May 21.
  • At the Moco Museum you can go to the beautiful exhibition of Salvador Dalí. 28 years ago one of the most famous artists died and his most iconic work as for example the melting clocks and tables with ‘high heels’ are ready to be seen at the Moco Museum. When you’re at the Moco Museum, visit the Banksy exhibition as well! You can see theSalvador Dalí exhibition until April 9 and Banksy until March 31.
  • Last call: in the Foam you can go to the exhibition of Ren Hang, who recently committed suicide. Naked young adults, mainly Chinese, in combination with swans, peacocks, and snakes. You can see the exhibition until 12 March.
