Café Binnenvisser Amsterdam: a light brown cafe with a different menu weekly

Café Binnenvisser Amsterdam

At Café Binnenvisser Amsterdam you can hang out for hours

Think of the brown cafes in Amsterdam and then imagine a light brown pub. A place where you can have drinks at the bar for hours, but also can order a good bottle of wine. Bob Nagel and Maarten Bloem opened up the cozy Café Binnenvisser Amsterdam a while ago on the Bilderdijkstraat and we can assure you: this is the place where you want to have a beer this weekend and go for a snack with friends.

Bob and Maarten helped with the construction of cinema, wine bar and restaurant FC Hyena and developed a love for natural wines. The idea of starting something for themselves was there, but the concept not quit yet. Until the wines! And YES, here was Café Binnenvisser Amsterdam. An Amsterdam café where you can taste a lot of natural wines and can enjoy a 3-course menu, but you can also have a beer at the bar and order your favourite main course.

weekly changing menu at Café Binnenvisser Amsterdam

Café Binnenvisser Amsterdam is a simple and affordable dining café where you can order a menu, but also just a main course. Expect a good plate of food with super fresh and quality ingredients. The focus is often on vegetables, but fish and meat lovers are also not forgotten. The menu usually consists of two entrees, 1 main course (always a vega option) and 2 desserts. The chefs are old chefs from De Vergulde Eenhoorn and Restaurant MOS, better said; this can’t go wrong ;-)

To keep it special, the menu changes weekly. What can you order over here? Think of dishes like smoked trout, chantarelles and white wine sauce or stuffed pumpkin with chestnut miso or go for truffle pearl barley with parmigiano and roasted cabbage with dukkah, potato & horseradish mousseline and king boleet. I keep looking at the desserts too; fig pasta with curd and pistachio, chocolate fudge with rosemary and poached pear with spiced bisquit … Oh my!

Besides the weekly menu they alsof have a bar menu where you can order delicious food like oysters, sardines from Portugal, charcuterie from Baambrugge, cheeses from farmer Kef and French bread from baker Niemeijer. Ps: The prices are great too. The main courses are between €12.50 and € 17.50 and a 3 -course menu is around € 25.

The Amsterdam café also looks like a brown bar, think of lots of brown wood, bar stools, stained glass windows and vintage and second-hand furniture to finish the picture. Ps: The men even made some of their furniture themselves. This is a place where you want to spend some hours!

Café binnenvisser amsterdam grew-up with these men

Fun fact: The name Café Binnenvisser Amsterdam comes from the street where the boys met each other years ago. Bob lived for 8 years on the Binnen Vissersstraat in the Jordaan, it became a spot where al friends came together to have dinner or drinks (so now and then a little partying too). Café Binnenvisser is a grown-up version of that place.
